Is there anyone here that is excellent at proofing resumes? If I send DH resume over can you take a look at it and see what it needs/doesn't need? Any help would be appreciated as this is his first resume in 20 years! Thanks so much!

I'm no expert, but I held a management position for many years and have seen LOTS of resumes.

Coupla tips: Make it one page with all the most recent stuff first. No need to include an entire job history going back 15-20 years. Customize it for the job to which your DH is applying.

Also include a brief customized cover letter.

Good luck:)

One of the biggest mistakes I think people make is that the develop one resume and use it for all job applications. Each application needs to be reviewed, and your resume (and cover letter) should be taylored to highlight your experience as it relates to the position.

When you are unemployed, you really do have a new job the last day you work, and that is finding a new job. That means enhancing/continuing the education that you were completing in your last position, continuing to expand your network and working non-stop on fine tuning your resume, applying to positions, etc. Many people don't put as much effort into finding a job as they do when they actually are working in a position.

I had mine professionally done....I can scan it to you if you need some visuals.

In addition, I work in HR. I see thousands of resume's per year. Although, I don't think I am an expert, I do notice errors etc.

Deffiently keep is to one page. And make it customized to the job you are applying for. Nothing I hate more is getting a resume talking about all the persons computer & construction experience when it is a customer service job. And do not put "references available upon request" either put them on or leave it off all together. I would say unless related to the job (ie former boss) your references are not going to be called anyway.
