Restriction Lifted to Pleasure Island

FWIW, I would like to go to PI without worrying about tots (or anyone under 21 for that matter) running or screaming around me. I've put up with that all day. This is an adult venue for adults. I'm not saying it would harm your children. I'm just saying they're not welcome! About 2 years ago, at the Wildhorse Saloon on PI (no longer the Wildhorse unfortunately), there were more tots on the dance floor than adults. And that was after midnight. That's not what it's there for. I wanted to dance there with my wife but didn't knowing that I could fall on/over a toddler at any moment.

I would love to see a demographic break-down on this issue. Age, income, education, residence, # of WDW visits, childless or not, etc. That would be interesting.

I may occasionally enjoy being in an "adult" situation, AND I realize that my teen-age children have seen "adult" situations. But I would never want to experience it together! Did you ever think that bringing them with you to an adult club might feel awkward for them too? Come on -- have separate lives!

I forgot to post this or maybe I didn't really want to talk about it, but since we are discussing adult situations... New Years Eve at Epcot in front of Italy, my family and I went to find a place to wait for Illuminations and the fireworks spectacular that followed, when I witness two young adults doing way more than is allowed to do in public. I was so upset! I saw my daughters 10 and 13 looking at them in shock. I quickly turn the family up the steps to find a CM. I reported it to them and they called security. Security came and escorted them away. I couldn't believe --- Disney World --- my place to get away from it all. :(

I won't let that stop me from going again. We will be back for 3 weeks this summer. :)

I was under the impression that your kids could stay if you entered early enough and you were with them. Im talking like 15 year olds not little 8 or 5 year olds.

The current way PI operates is that there are turnstiles at the entrances to the island. Only guests who have paid admission and been issued a ticket are allowed through the turnstiles (unless you're talking about a sneak preview or something). Once you pass the turnstiles you're free to wander around and enter any club. Minors under 18 are allowed to pass the turnstiles at any time as long as they have an admission ticket and are accompanied by a parent or other adult over age 21. If you're too young to drink alcohol you won't be issued the wristbands that are put on guests of legal drinking age.

The way this trial period will operate is that the turnstiles will be eliminated and anyone, at any time, whether they've paid admission or not, will be allowed to enter PI and wander through the street. If you wish to enter a club, you must have an admission ticket and present it to personnel at the doors of the clubs (I don't know whether or not you can actually buy an admission ticket from the personnel at the club doors or if you already have to have the admission ticket in your possession, or if they'll issue admission wristbands when you buy a ticket, which is how it's done currently, perhaps using a different color wristband for anyone too young to drink). Children will be allowed into the clubs if they have an admission ticket and are accompanied by a parent (or an adult over age 21).

The clubs that do not allow children to enter are Mannequins dance club and BET Soundstage, which are limited to 21 and over (sometimes they lower this to 18 and over during peak times such as spring break).

You always could bring kids in, you just had to pay for admission (there is no cheaper child's rate) or have a pass where it's included.

From disneyworld.com:

Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older who has an acceptable form of identification. Guests must be 21 to enter Mannequins and BET SoundStage Club. Valid photo ID required.

Hi folks!

Please keep in mind that we're a theme parks board. :)

News about Pleasure Island is just fine, but this has quickly turned into a debate about kids and Pleasure Island. Feel free to take that to the debate board.

I kind of like the idea of admission to PI being free now, for a couple of reasons. On my first trip to WDW, we didn't have much of an idea of what PI was, and just wanted to walk through to get from Marketplace to West Side, to look around a little, and to avoid taking the bus. It will be nice that people can do that now. Also, on my last trip, I went to PI with a friend who lives near Orlando, and after we got in (she had to pay admission, mine was covered w/ my AP), we found that there was almost NOBODY there- there were literally 2 people dancing in most of the clubs, while others were empty. It would have been nice to see that things were that empty before she had to pay to get in.

I'd personally prefer that they keep it to 18+, though, because as much as I love watching children experience the Magic in the parks during the day, it's nice to have a place to get away from them at night. Whether or not you want your kids in a bar/party environment is up to you, but when Disney advertises a place as a getaway for adults, I'd like for it to be just that.

The Pleasure Island subject has been throughly discussed.

If y'all wanna debate the pros and cons of children in an adult atmosphere please go to thread on the DIS Debate Board...here's a link so you don't even have to look for it,it will take you right to it! :D http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=574856
