We are looking at booking an Alaskan cruise this fall and was wondering if anyone had a bad experience when booking a restricted room? First time looking at a restricted reservation for us as we booked a Veranda room on our Carribean cruise two years ago. Thanks in advance for any experience good or bad you can offer!

We've had only positive experiences booking restricted staterooms. One was on the Magic, and the other was on the Dream. Great savings and no issues with the staterooms at all. Unless you have a specific desire for a certain location (in which case you shouldn't book restricted at all), there's really nothing to worry about as all DCL staterooms are pretty nice.

Which category did you book? If it's VGT, don't worry about getting a Navigator's Verandah. We loved our Navigator's Verandah (which we booked on purpose) on the Wonder for our Alaska cruise. We got great views from it, and it was charmingly themed.

We were looking at an OGT room actually. I would love a VGT but the $1300 difference would mean more excursions for the family. Thank you for commenting.

I'll just point out, booking an OGT (Oceanview) doesn't mean you will actually get an oceanview room for sure. Chances are you will, but you could get a verandah room.

That's the chance you take.

I have never been given a bad room when I went with VGT or GTY and we have done several through the years.
For our Alaska sailing in 2013, we ended up with a great room on deck 7, it was a VGT and we got a category 5A.

Thank you for this my anxiety level is decreasing every time I hear something good!!! :)
