Restaurants while masked

I went in April. In practice it was masks until seated (and if you got up to go to the restroom etc). I think the rule was wait till drinks hit the table, but nobody was doing that.
In theory, strict compliance would imply that you wait until the water has been served before removing masks. But in practice nobody is going to quibble about the minute or so it takes between being seated and the water being put out.

That was mostly the antis (anti-masker/anti-vaxxer...that Venn diagram is mostly a solid circle) who were being extreme about the "while actively eating and drinking" phrase. I never saw any report of a CM in a restaurant telling someone they had to put their mask on between bites.
I don’t think that first sentence is really fair, but it seems like those kinds of comments are ok to make, just not the ones that go the other way. But I totally agree with that last part; hopefully not many people ever actually believed that was the intent.

How did restaurants work during the mask mandate before? Did they just not have indoor seating? Thanks for any answers!
Reality of how it worked was you wore your mask until you got to your table. At that point the host would usually tell you you can take off you mask. Mask was off until you got up to leave after you were done.

How would they go back to reduced capacity? People have ADRs booked for the next 60 days. Do they just cancel people randomly?
They won't. The only reason they're doing the mask thing is because they feel they have to and it doesn't cost them any money. We're not going to see them back down the full steam ahead upping capacity strategy they've been on or see them start social distancing again etc.

Great info. Thanks everyone. I have not ever worn a mask in a restaurant anywhere before so this is all new to me and I will be there in November. I am sure they won't have the mask rule then but good to know. Good question and answers.

If I get booted for saying that with positive energy, I really do appreciate the topic and the info everyone provided.

When we went the vast majority of people would wear a mask until they got to their table, then remove it when seated, and only put it back on when getting up to go to the restroom or leaving when finished.
That was our experience in April as well.

We visited Disney in November, March and May with no problems eating indoors during masking. From the time you recieved you drinks you could remove the mask (most told us to remove our masks as soon as we were seated). Indoors the tables were very spaced which made eating indoors very comfortable.

The only place we had to replace the mask in-between bites was on the airplane.

I agree with this. While Disney is taking it upon themselves to require indoor masking as a company policy in response to a CDC recommendation, there is no mandate from any government agency. So, without someone saying (or in Disney's case, at least CDC recommending) that "you must/should" reduce capacity, which would equal removing/blocking tables, I don't think there will be any instance of having to cancel, redo, or in any other way have to rebook or change people's ADRs.
