Restaurants to Eliminate from my list?

Here is a question for you - you have selected all very fine restaurants. Dropping 2 of them is a tough choice because they are all so wonderful. However, all of these meals are very time consuming and I am wondering that if after 7 nights - you might just be "done" with long romantic meals. Those long meals can take up 2+ hours of your evening and more with "commute" times - but if you are okay with that - wonderful! More power to you! :) You might just enjoy sitting in the hot tub one evening with a cold beverage...

With that being said, what wonderful two places to drop? While I enjoyed Jiko - it is a bit out of the way to get to and if you get busy, it could be a pain to get there, so I would consider that. And while I like San Angel Inn and am probably going to go there next trip - I would skip that one as well. My circumstances are different - we have a 7 year old and that place intrigues and entertains her. But, I have found it crowded, slow and as others have stated - not so romantic really. But, with a kid, my husband can take her on the boat ride while I wait for the food... and that is a plus! :)

Hey everybody! Can anyone critique our restaurant list and tell me which ones that I should drop? I can only keep 7 of these..

Narcoosees
Le Cellier
Cinderellas Royal Table
California Grilla
San Angel Inn
Kona Cafe
Flying Fish Cafe
Coral Reef
Jiko

You'll have to tell us a bit more about yourself and your party. Any budget constraints? On the Dining Plan? Food likes/dislikes? Small children? Interested in the princesses? Or Pirates? Like fancy food? Or prefer plain food?

Having said that - drop CRT, CG & Coral Reef.

Outside the resteraunts, I would try and score BIG brownie points by taking them to POFQ and suprising them with a horse drawn carriage ride. For extra points bring some wine.

Personally, I would definitely drop Flying Fish and Coral Reef. For sure, keep Le Cellier, California Grill, San Angel Inn, and Kona Cafe.

I know you already mentioned you don't have "young" kids going...but you never did say if you all were on the dinning plan. Not that, that would make a huge diffrence...but SOME of the places you have listed I believe are 2 credit places. Anyways....You also didn't say if you already had ADR made for all of these places for the days/times you wanted...because 'if' you don't that may be your deciding factor right there. After all if you pick you 7 you want but can't get them...then you may end up short.

I'd say "IF" you don't have your ADR made yet...then stick with all of what you have...call for the ADR and see which ones if any you can get. Again...that may depend on when your going. Heck for all I know your trip is still a year away???...or as little as a couple weeks.

With that being said...we went to CRT for dinner a couple years ago..and although I understand it has changed...I have to say it was one of the BEST meals we had. My parents went with us...and want BADLY to go back again in Sept. I didn't even attempt to get ADR for CRT this time around ONLY because of the dinning credit thing and the fact that the price went up...anyways my parents are very disapointed that we won't be dinning there. I think given what you've said and why you picked CRT...I'd KEEP it. :goodvibes

I dropped San Angel from my list.

I've been to Cinderella before as well, and it's more of a been there, done that type of thing now as well.

I would keep Narcoosees and Jiko's, they are both wonderful. I thought Le Cellier, Coral Reef and California Grill were good, not great. At San Angel Inn, they didn't charge me for the meal, it was so bad. Cinderella's Royal Table should be done once in your life. I haven't been to Flying Fish Cafe or to Kona Cafe.

I would drop San Angel Inn and Coral Reef. If you like good Mexican food, you would be very disappointed with San Angel, and the food at Coral Reef leaves much to be desired.

I'd drop CRT and shift Kona to breakfast for Tonga Toast!

Staying in line with the types of places you're eating, I'd switch Coral Reef for the Brown Derby.

i would drop san angel inn and le cellier. food at san angel is gross IMO, and le cellier is WAY overhyped AND overcrowded. and ssslllloowwww service

I'd drop Cinderellas Royal Table (think it's very over rated), San Angel Inn, and Coral Reef.

I'd pick up either, Portobello's, the dining room upstairs at Wolfgang Puck's, or even maybe the Hoop De Doo for the atmosphere.

Do yourself a HUGE favor and don't cancel any of the others. IMO, you'll miss some of the best Disney has to offer if you do.

The only 2 places on your list that I've been to are the 2 many people think you should drop! What's funny is they were my 2 favorite restaurants! CRT and San Angel! When my husband and I were first married, we went to Disney. We had no ADRs b/c we knew nothing about them. Mexico was the one place where we feel in love with the atmosphere and wanted to eat at but couldn't b/c they were full. 10 years later (and now a Disney nut!), we went with ADRs and ate there. I loved every minute. The food's not great, but in true Disney loyalty I'm not necessarily there for the food as much as the experience. We requested a table near the water and waited extra long for it. It WAS romantic to me. Waiting in the courtyard before dinner, shopping in the little jewelry store and picking out some momento, riding the boat ride, eating by the water, all added up for me as a great experience.
Cinderella's table is something everyone should do ONCE. Again, food was ok, service ok, but experience A+++. Waiting in the lobby, pics with Cinderella, walking up the winding stairs, seeing the room when you first walk in (it looks like a castle restaurant!), and just knowing that we were IN the castle was fun! I'd go every trip if it wasn't 2 table credits. WAY not worth that! But great for one time! Try to request a table near the windows.
We are trying LeCellier and Coral Reef next time. I've heard good things about at least one of them! You have a few 2 TS choices on your list, does that matter to you? That may help eliminate some choices for you if you weren't aware of that.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of your choices. Have a fun trip!

Thanks for all the replies! I've been trying to catch up with everyones advice and opinions!

Budget wise, we have been saving the past two years and have way more than enough for the food, hotel, and tickets. With four people splitting the total bill of the trip, money is really the last thing on our minds and we just want to make magical memories. We are going next month so it is going to be so exciting because we literally anticipated this trip for two years now. After hearing all the bad comments about San Angel Inn, I think we are going to drop that and replace it with the German themed restaurant.

First, congrats on your savings achievement, keep up that habit! You are definitely young and in love, good for you!

You haven't answered the question of whether or not you are on the DDP. Even if you have plenty of money for food why pay full price when you can get a discount with little effort? Maybe surprise your girlfriends with a spa treatment with the money you save. If you are staying at a Disney resort and you bought Magic My Way park tickets you may be eligible to purchase the plan. For a daily total of under $160 per day you would each get a TS meal, CS meal and snack. You would still pay for any alcohol.

By the way with plenty of money consider getting the &More tickets that include access to water parks, Disney Quest(games) and Pleasure Island (clubs).

Not sure of the details for your trip, but lets say you are staying 7 nights: You could use your TS credits as follows based on your list:

1-Biergerten
2-Le Cellier
3- Kona Cafe or Coral Reef
4/5- California Grille
6/7- Narcoosee's or Flying Fish Cafe or Jiko
(I would select 2 of the 4 Signature meals listed above, any 2)
Cinderellas Royal Table (Pay Cash for this)

On the other day (to make 7) perhaps this is a lounge at the resort day, I'd use CS credits for my meals then take a trip over to Beaches and Cream to share the Kitchen Sink dessert($22 cash). As college students I think this would be a fantastic memory to make. Its fun, could be romantic and flirty.

Each dining plan TS meal include appetizer, entree, dessert and non alcoholic beverage. A CS meal does not include an appetizer and is a different restaurant class (quick service vs waitress service) than TS. Even if you don't use or aren't eligible for the DDP, seriously consider the Kitchen Sink.
