restaurants on international drive

We will be going on our 4th trip to WDW on the 29th June and we have only ever eaten at Ponderosa, Sizzler and Denny's , we are therefore looking for somewhere new to try on International Drive. Any recommendations will be welcome.

We were massive fans of Dennys on our first two visits to Orlando and it was the first restaurant we went in to on our last trip a couple of years ago (the one near the jnct of Intl Drive and Sandlake Rd). What a disappointment.

The service was lax and the food naff. So bad that we didn't go back in a Dennys for the whole of the trip.

What we did discover though was the Golden Corral just across the road from our hotel (Quality Inn International). This is another buffet style restaurant but the choice seemed greater and the food fresher than Ponderosa and Sizzler, and it was definately our buffet of choice. They make fresh bread and pizza on the premises.

I am sure there will be many many recommendations from people on here, esp along Int'l Drive, but if you are travelling with kids you just can't beat the buffet restaurants for keeping em happy, melon, rice and garlic bread anyone - my 7 year old thought he was in food heaven!

The other must visit recommendation from me would be the all-you can eat chinese buffet further up Int'l Drive past Wet and Wild and on the same side, Bill Wongs I think it was called. Bit dearer than Ponderose et al, but excellent quality and still superb value for money.

These recommendations are based on my last visit which was 2 years ago, I hope to be checking them out myself this coming Feb.

For Steaks we really like Wild Jacks, the 18oz Chilli encrusted New Yorks Strip is worth the trip up from Disney everytime !!

Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, Tony Roma's, Jungle Jims + TGIF all offer reasonable/good food at good value for money.

Darryl's, Darryl's, Darryl's, Darryl's.....am I getting my point over?

Fantastic food, fantastic service, fantastic setting. You won't be disappointed.

Also, Houlihans (funnily enough they own Darryls), similar menu but worth a visit as well. As before fantastic everything.

For a healthier option you'd do well to beat Sweet Tomatoes, at the top end of IDrive, near Wet n Wild. All you can eat, pasta, pizza, salad, jackets, desserts, cheap as chips (which you can't have) and fantastic service.

One final option for something different, B-Line Diner at the Peabody Hotel for a 50's setting and brilliant food. Menu changes four times a day and is open 24hours a day!!!!

Race Rock is unmissable. Don't order a starter and a main though, I like my food but even i struggle to finish the portions here.

Bahama Breeze, get there early (they open at 4pm) to get a table on the deck outside.

The tapas place mentioned on other threads (can't remember the name) is excellent, entertainment at your table. We had a magician and belly dancers.

The Evergaldes restaurant in the Rosen Centre is outstanding.

We all love the IHOP at the bottom of I-Drive, simple food, tasty, just what you need after the excesses of some of the other restaurants.

You must try Sweet Tomatoes - at the junction with Kirkman Road. It is absolutely fantastic - great salad buffet selection, but also have Pizza and pasta, soups, breads, and cookies and brownies and ice cream for afters. We thougt it was great value for money $6 or 7 per adult and only a couple of dollars for the kids, less if they are under 5. Makes a nice change from burgers, fries, chicken strips!!

Another vote for the Golden Corral at Sand Lake Rd/I-Drive junction. We also liked Cracker Barrel-there's one near Kirkman Rd/I-4 junction.

Cafe Tu Tu Tango is the tapas place mentioned above. Highly recommended. For fine Italian, try DiVinos at The Mercado.

Turn left from I-Drive on to Sand Lake Road, go under I4 and half a mile along is a new area of shops and restaurants. On the right is Fountains Plaza, including Moonfish, Melting Pot, Thai Passion, Antonio's and Ruith's Chris Steak House. Opposite is another long plaza with a similarly stylish array, including Timpano's, Samba Room, Roy's, Seasons 52, Amura Sushi and Bonefish (more fine seafood). This is now a real KEY area for fine dining in Orlando.

Another vote here for Bahama Breeze. We went for my birthday dinner and the food was really good, although i got asked for id when i ordered my cocktail. Oops I forgot you had to be 21 out there! But we had a nice waitress and all my friends had their id's so she let my me have a birthday drink. I'd forgotten what it was like to have to lie about your age to get a sneaky drink!

We mentioned above we to have always enjoyed Darryls in the past until last week.

The Steak was tasteless, it no longer came with any veg and the once great twice smashed baked potatoe mash was now like packet smash.

We wont be going again sad to say.

Also I was shocked at the state of the Mercado - dirty, rundown, a great number of empty units and some very dodgy characters lurking around. This included a group of drunken yobs drinking outside at the Cricketers Arms (who were British) making "comments" to people as they walked past.

We love Wild Jacks, Chicago Uno's for the yummiest pizza, love love love Golden corral and The Oilve Garden is nice for Italian good value food. Also we like Wongs for a really good value chinese buffet. We are on our 4th visit in 2 weeks, how excited are we!!!!!

i have to agree with martin, Wild Jacks is hard to beat not only for great steaks but really good service, im planning to eat there at least once a day ,lol. Ronnies steak house on I-drive is also great if you like steak but its starting to get a little pricey.
