As I dip my toe into Universaland, I need to figure out where to eat and where not to eat. It's my 12 year old daughter and me, at Universal for 4 days over spring break.

I'm pretty sure we're going to try Mythos and Tchop Chop. What other table service and counter service restaurants are good (parks, resorts and citiwalk)? Any that should be avoided at all costs?

Well...you're already planning to visit my two favorite restaurants.
Your daughter wouldl probably enjoy the Hard Rock Cafe also.
We really disliked Mel's. Yuck!
We like to have a leisurly lunch at Lomards Landing when we are in Universal Studios.

IOA Counter Serve:
Thunder Falls Terrace(JP)
Burger Digs (JP)
Enchanted Oak (Lost Continent)
Cafe 4 (Marvel)

USF Counter Serve:
Louie's (NY)
Cafe La Bamba (Hollywood)
Schwab's Pharmacy (Hollywood)
Boulengaerie (Production Central)

Table Service
Lombards Landing or Finnegan's (USF)
NBA City (Citywalk)
Mamma Della's (PBH)
The Kitchen (HRH)
Latin Quarter (Citywalk)

I like Sal's at the Portofino for counter service.
Great Pizza, and Salads.

The Palm at the Hard Rock IMO has the best steak in Orlando, pretty pricey though.

Sal's (Portofino) they have the best pizza, ever.

Margarittaville (Citywalk) the burgers are good and the atmosphere is fun.

Bubba Gump's (Citywalk) good food, big portions, fun atmosphere.

We loved Mtythos, Finnegans and Margaritaville. I have to say though, we were disappointed in Tchoup Tchoup.

Mythos is awesome, IMO. I loved it and felt it was one of the best meals I had on my trip last year.

I didn't care for the food at Mel's though. The theming is nice and it's a cool place to eat, but the food was nothing special and I didn't care for it.

We enjoyed all three of these, agree about the pizza. Also enjoyed the Hard Rock (good desserts)

Finnegans is also good, and we had decent burgers at Richters by the old Earthquake ride

You listed my 2 top favorites :)

FI & I tend to visit only those 2 restaurants and every other meal is just a random hot dog or pretzel. We make a production out of only 1 meal for the day :)

My two favs at each park and CityWalk are:

IOA:
Thunder Falls Terrace
The Enchanted Oak

Studios:
Louie's
Finnegan's

CityWalk:
Margaritaville
Hard Rock Cafe

I made reservations for St. Patrick's Day lunch at Finnegans. (Boy,is the reservations process extremely low key, compared to Disney!)

My favorites:

IOA
Enchanted Oak, Fireaters Grill (when it's open)

UO
Lombards , Nathans

Citywalk
NBA City , Latin Quarter

Hotels
The Palm, Mama Dellas, Sal's Market Deli , Island's Breakfast Buffet

Offsite
Carmella's , Kobe Japanese Steak House , Hooters (ok,ok, it's not for the food);)

Cinnabon sugar rush waiting to happen and if you have kids after letting them eat there they will be bouncing of the walls :lmao: :lmao:

i have not tried a lot of places there, but the common ones I read about here to stay away from are:

Studios
International Food Ct.
Monster's Cafe
Mel's

IOA
Circus McGurkus

Most other places are okay/good....usually the few table service places in the parks are better than anything...as most (if not all) CW places are good! Ya don't hear too many people complaining about CW restaurants....

Now...not to say NOBODY likes the places I posted above as "not too popular"...I'm not saying EVERYONE dislikes them, they just seem to be the majority around here I read about  If nobody liked them, they wouldn't be around...... either that, or a lot of people just don't check out the DIS reviews :rolleyes1
