Restaurants Discontinuing Items...

I too miss the fried ice cream from Chi-Chis. I still dream of chocolate lasagna from Olive Garden. My ex once bought me a box of it (about 12 slices) instead of birthday cake and I got to enjoy it for a few months.

Wendy's Chicken Caesar Pita.

McDonalds French fries with the beef fat. Thanks vegetarians, you ruined those fries! ;)

PF Changs took Sichuan Shrimp entree off their menu. I was able to get it by asking though.

Red Lobster (eons ago, 97-98) had this strawberry shortcake dessert for their summer menu. I'd go in just for that ... ok and the biscuits.

The only thing I can think of for myself was the Pollo Magnifico meal at Chi Chi's. First they took it off their menu, then they closed all their restaurants. :(

DH likes the Daily Double meal at McD's and can sometimes get it and sometimes not. Maybe it's up to the franchise owner to decide if they offer that or not, but it always bugs him when he can't get it at one but then can at another.

I went to order my husband's beloved chicken salad sandwich yesterday at Chick-fil-A only to find it is being discontinued at the end of September.

NOOOOOOOOOOO, they already discontinued my carrot raisin salad, cole slaw and lemon pie. Not my favorite chicken salad too!!!!!!!!!!

Those little cookies you used to be able to get at mcdonalds. Kinda shortbready and shaped like the characters.

The seafood fondue at Red Lobster that was mentioned earlier.

These little sausage pancake bite nuggets you could get at Dunkin Donuts. They were so good, but they stopped carrying them about 5 years ago. That would be why I never go to DD anymore.

It wasn't the vegetarian's fault. McDonald's dropped frying their fries in beef tallow decades ago because that type of fat was thought to cause heart disease more so than others. We've since discovered that this is not the case at all but they've never gone back. I think this all happened in the 70s, when "fats" became evil and they were trying to appeal to that.

Wendy's Chicken BLT salad and the OLD $1 Caesar side salads before they changed the cheese and dressing. I used to get like three of them, bring them home and put them in a big bowl. :rotfl: Also they used to have these fried chicken sandwiches in which they would dip the chicken in either buffalo or BBQ sauce... LOVED the buffalo ones.

Arby's used to have a mushroom swiss that was my favorite sandwich ever. I am still not over losing it!
Yeah, and you could get that mushroom/swiss topping on a baked potato too. :cloud9: That was delish!! There are very, very few Arby's around here anymore - most of the locations are in mall food courts, where I never go. If I'm ever in the area where the drive-thrus still are, I try to stop. Arby's is probably my all-time favourite fast food!

I was joking it was their fault, hence the wink ;).

ETA, there was a lawsuit in 2002 over the beef in fries. According to the article, it was in the 90's when they said they switched to all vegetable oil.

Spark drinks at Sonic. I may or may not have had a problem with stopping there several times a week during their happy hour. They stopped advertising it as Spark on their menu (must have been a trademark issue) and started callling it energy drink instead. And then one by one, each of their locations stopped carrying it. I haven't been back to Sonic since.

Yes but even after they stopped FRYING them in beef tallow in stores they still blanched them with it before they packaged them for the stores. They "hide" this fact for many years. It is only in the last few years that stopped this and switched to an "artificial" substitute, they just aren't the same. And they still are not vegan friendly as the substitute contains dairy.

We were unhappy when McDonalds discontinued their Chicken Selects. Hardly ever eat there anymore.

Here are some discontinued items. Note that some of them, I'm more than happy to see go.

1. The McLobster. Pieces of junk lobster in a hot dog bun. That was totally rank. They still have it on occasion regionally.
2. The Super Bar. Wendy's. They discontinued it because it was tough to both keep it stocked and do their regular menu.
3. The Bell Beefer. Yeah. Taco Bell really wasn't thinking outside the bun. A taco seasoned sloppy joe
4. McSpaghetti. Yeah. Mickey D's had it. Still served abroad in some places. But gone here.
5. A breeze. A healthier version of the Dairy Queen Blizzard made with frozen yogurt.
6. McDonald's Hula Burger. A pineapple slice with all the hamburger fixings but not the hamburger. Designed for those that don't eat meat on Fridays. Beaten out by Filet 0 fish.
7. McDonald's Arch Deluxe. A quarter pounder on a potato bun with "secret" sauce. Turned out to be a mustard and mayo thing.
8. The McLean. A 91% lean patty.
9. Mc Donald's Mighty wings.
10. Domino's Oreo pizza. HAHAHAHA.
11. The Mc DLT.
12. The Enormous Omelet Sandwich. Burger King. Should have called it the quintuple bypass. You'd need one after eating these.
13. Priazzo Pizza hut. Essentially a deep dish pizza of the stuffed crust style. Pulled because it took way too long to cook.
14. McWraps. Too labor intensive to prepare.
15. Frescata sandwiches Wendy's. Another one that took two long to prepare.

Still not vegetarian though. The fries are soaked in a solution that includes dextrose, which help it brown and that might not necessarily be vegetarian. And of course there's the natural beef extract. An Indian friend (he was Hindu) really freaked out about it and said he'd never return to McDonald's. I heard there were even small riots in India, even though their McDonald's served 100% vegetarian fries.
