Hello--leaving for the world in 12 days--whoppee and will be in Vero in 18 days! I am wondering if anyone who has been in the past year can recommend a resaurant that they like that's within 15 minutes of the resort. We love squidlips but past that haven't found others we are crazy about. We will have our DD8 and my D parents 67 and 65 so we have to please all the gang! Please help!

If you know SquidLips, I'm guessing you've been to Capt. Hiram's and maybe don't like that? That would be my other recommendation after SquidLips.

ETA: If you're willing to drive farther (40 mins), I highly recommend Islands Fish Grille on 5th Ave in Indialantic.

We have ate at many Vero restaurants over the years.
By far our favorite is the Ocean Grill. It's not cheap, but the atmoshere and food are excellent. There may be a wait, so it may not be the best with small kids.
For adults there is a nice bar that almost overhangs the ocean.

Note: If you get the shrimp cocktail, get a side of horse raddish. Otherwise it's esentially ketchup. :smokin:

I second Ocean Grill as a choice your parents would probably enjoy too.

I'll also be curious to hear reports on the new restaurant that will be part of Gloria Estefan's hotel due to open in Vero mid-June. Here's a link to the hotel -- starting at the restaurant description. This is located in the general area of the Ocean Grill

If you're going to come as far as Indialantic, there are a lot of good restaurants. Islands Fish Grille is awesome as already stated, City Tropics (also on 5th) is casual and good, Skewers (5th again, middle eastern cuisine) is delicious, and Haru (sushi, on A1A) is quite good.

Mr. Manatee's is a similar menu to Squid Lips. Not on the water, though, but good.

A good "chain" restaurant for Italian food is Carrabba's. My family enjoyed both.

Many have early birds or other special discounts. My top choices personally are Jack Bakers Lobster Shanty for Early bird and Bono's BBQ, loved their Brunswick stew. There was an Italian restaurant across from the Mall in VB in the same strip mall as the Publix that was VERY good. We haven't been to the Ocean Grill though it does look nice.

Another vote for especially Bono's and we've always enjoyed the early bird at Jack Baker's also. At spring break quite a few people raved about the Riverside - we couldn't find it but we will next time!

I think Dean is talking about Italian Grill http://www.italiangrill.com/
I was a little hesitant because of the location but had read some good reviews -- I also really liked this restaurant, very good Italian food. So good, even Tommy Lasorda has eaten here.

My parents have a vacation place about 30 min north of the Vero Resort (is it wrong that a tiny piece of me resents this, because I'll never have a reason to stay at WDW Vero?:confused3 ) and I want to second this recommndation. We LOVE City Tropics. Fun atmosphere, great food. Also, for a fun, casual, pub-like (but very family friendly atmosphere, we take out DD9 all the time) there is the Surfin' Turtle which is in the "Driftwood Plaza" where there is a Publix, hardware store, movie rental/pizza place, gym and liquor store:thumbsup2 !! We eat there ALL the time when in Melbourne Beach.

Surfin Turtle would be literally 25 min north, I would say. Right before ST, maybe a mile before, is a hidden gem called "Coconut Cove Cafe. Only open for Dinner, and no Sundays or Mondays, it is family owned and operated. It is high class German food with a beautiful view. Get there right at 5 or expect a wait (that is well worth it.) beer and wine only and not super kid friendly (we take our DD, but i remember when she was a baby, they have NO high chairs, which kind of tells ya something!:rolleyes1 )

We also love Skewers in Indialantic. Again, about 40 min north. Try to go on Sat nights, but make a reservation for that particular night, as it is popular because they have a belly dancer Sat nights only!

I have to tell you, Islands Fish Grille disappointed me. Also, I *think* my mom said it is now only open for lunch? I know that seems weird...maybe I am wrong....

Ok, I am going to check out Mia's thread now, to see if I can learn about some new places for my next visit!

Coconut Cove looks great! Something very different. Is it on the water or do they just a picture in their ad?

Well I am 70 days away from my first trip as a new VB owner!! We will be renting a car from MCO and driving over. We have never been, don't know any roads, and pray we get there in a timely fashion!:lmao: Thanks goodness for google earth and Garmin GPS! Anyway, I have printed out all the the great restaraunts mentioned. Which would be the best to visit not knowing the area around VB? Ocean Grill? Squid Lips? Also got my FREE KSC passes, so as long as we don't get lost, we're all set!:goodvibes Any advice greatly appreciated! I should make this a new thread I think!

Yes, it is on the Indian River, which is the "other side" of A1A...it's the intracoastal, I guess. Only negative is at a cerain time, the sun from the west as it sets is BRUTAL. It won't affect you sitting inside, though.

Please try it, it is awesome!

We really enjoyed Mo-Bay Grill a small Jamaican restaurant that was in the Publix plaza on the northern side of Sebastian (near Walmart). The food was very good as well as the service. The menu was also fairly diverse. Anyone else try this place?

The front desk CMs are really good about giving good directions to most of the frequently mentioned restaurants. DH is very directionally challenged - and even he could find Squid Lips!

Only 70 days for you? I did not realize you're owners now! Lucky you. You're going to have such an amazing time. :goodvibes I'm only 12 days away!!  Went and bought our 2008 sunscreen today - everyone in my family uses a different SPF so we are loaded up!!!

I like The Lemon Tree on Ocean Drive. It is nestled in with all the shops in the town of Vero.

and ladies right down from the restaurant there is a great shoe/pedicure shop called Tootsie's. The pedi's are reasonable and you can shop for great shoes while you wait for your polish to dry. :thumbsup2
