If you're going to come as far as Indialantic, there are a lot of good restaurants. Islands Fish Grille is awesome as already stated, City Tropics (also on 5th) is casual and good, Skewers (5th again, middle eastern cuisine) is delicious, and Haru (sushi, on A1A) is quite good.
My parents have a vacation place about 30 min north of the Vero Resort (is it wrong that a tiny piece of me resents this, because I'll never have a reason to stay at WDW Vero?

) and I want to second this recommndation. We LOVE City Tropics.

Fun atmosphere, great food. Also, for a fun, casual, pub-like (but very family friendly atmosphere, we take out DD9 all the time) there is the Surfin' Turtle which is in the "Driftwood Plaza" where there is a Publix, hardware store, movie rental/pizza place, gym and liquor store

!! We eat there ALL the time when in Melbourne Beach.
Surfin Turtle would be literally 25 min north, I would say. Right before ST, maybe a mile before, is a hidden gem called "Coconut Cove Cafe. Only open for Dinner, and no Sundays or Mondays, it is family owned and operated. It is high class German food with a beautiful view. Get there right at 5 or expect a wait (that is well worth it.) beer and wine only and not super kid friendly (we take our DD, but i remember when she was a baby, they have NO high chairs, which kind of tells ya something!

)
We also love Skewers in Indialantic. Again, about 40 min north. Try to go on Sat nights, but make a reservation for that particular night, as it is popular because they have a belly dancer Sat nights only!
I have to tell you, Islands Fish Grille disappointed me. Also, I *think* my mom said it is now only open for lunch? I know that seems weird...maybe I am wrong....
Ok, I am going to check out Mia's thread now, to see if I can learn about some new places for my next visit!
