Restaurantosaurus family style dining or TRex?

Both have awesome Dino theming. OOP with kids who may or may not eat much is probably also a tie on price for my group.

Taking a 14yo, 2 9yos, a 6yo and 5yo. All Dino lovers but we probably don’t need to eat two Dino themed meals right? Which would you choose?

Might not have a choice if your trip isn't in the next couple of weeks. Restaurantosaurus' family style dining isn't taking reservations past November 16.

Oh bummer. Even our ADR booking date isn’t for months. Well how does regular Restaurantosaurus stack up to TRex then? I guess that would make it significantly cheaper?

IMO, Restaurantosaurus isn't really dino themed. It seems more themed like a mess hall from boot camp or something...ie, quonset hut styling. It just so happens to be in Dinoland, so that's what they call it.

T-Rex is very much dino themed. If dinosaur theming is your goal, T-Rex should be your choice. The food is better at T-Rex too, but of course you're comparing a table service restaurant against a quick service restaurant.

There is always a chance Disney could extend the Restaurantosaurus family dining offering, though.

If your kids are big dino fans, then T-Rex will really wow them. I read lots of reviews that the food at T-Rex is like Applebees, but we ate there a couple years ago and thought the food was pretty good for basics like burgers and fries.

My 7 year old is Dino obsessed and it was the highlight of our last trip. Food was decent too. It’s a must do for us every trip

Restaurantosaurus is not Dino themed....It is however near Dinosaur the ride... and air conditioned which is a plus.
T-Rex has very good theming but research the rooms and request one if possible although they are all nice and you are encouraged to get up and walk around.
As far as the food it is OK stay in the middle of the menu and you will have a decent meal. Would not categorize with apple bees where truly if you paid more than 10.00 for you meal (minus the drink but mostly included) you paid to much... I would take a big mac any day over their food..... but years ago it was decent by far no longer.

So interesting that so many of you are saying some version of this!

The blogs reporting on the family style dining make this place sound so heavily themed. I guess that’s why the DIS is so great to have real life experiences from regular people!

The distinction is that T-Rex is themed to being right in among living dinosaurs, while Restaurantosaurus is themed as the headquarters of a bunch of paleontology grad students (you know, the ones working at the dig site next door). So there aren't animatronic dinosaurs, no, but it has a really fun and detailed theme throughout that ties in closely with the area in which it's placed.

But no, it's not over the top dinosaurs like T-Rex. There are dino heads mounted on the walls and dino-related decorations, but it doesn't pretend that you're having lunch in the Cretaceous. You're just crashing amongst grad students who like dinosaurs a lot. As an adult I get more enjoyment out of Restaurantosaurus since there are all kinds of little jokes and details to find, but kids may enjoy the big dinos at T-Rex more--you know your family best.

Here's a couple of pictures from T-Rex when we ate there. Make sure you try the Chocolate Extinction! About every 15 min they come to life and move.
