Hi all! This is my first post on the DIS, excited to get to know you!

My husband and I have been to WDW twice before, and we're planning another trip to celebrate my birthday at the end of June (so soon!). It's just the two of us, no kiddies. I'm reviewing our dining reservations, and we don't have one yet for Hollywood Studios. We've eaten at Sci-Fi Dine-In before, so would like to try something new this time around. Of the available options (50's Prime Time Cafe, Brown Derby, Hollywood & Vine, Mama Melrose's), which would you recommend? No preference between buffet or not, just whatever one you enjoy most! Any pros and cons would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also going back and forth between doing the Fantasmic! package. Do you think it's worth it?

Thanks and looking forward to hearing your opinions!

I love Brown Derby, eat there just about every time I'm at HS. Love their Cobb Salad and grapefruit cake. I normally get the crab cakes for appetizer then the Cobb Salad appetizer portion for my entre and add a desert and wine flight. I've done the package in the past but don't do it any more. It will save you having to stand in line for Fantastic but frankly if they are having two shows the night you are there and you go to the late one, the standby line shouldn't be too bad.

First of all, Welcome to the DIS!!!
We love the 50's PTC. The atmosphere is 1950's and very fun and the food is good old fashioned "comfort Food". I love the Fried Chicken and DH loves the Pot Roast

I would avoid H & V at all cost. It is the only restaurant in all of WDW we will never return to. Never
Have Fun

We haven't done the Fantasmic package in a few years but we always did it with Mama Melrose and we thought the food was good. We went to Hollywood and Vine once, it was nasty so we have never been back. My teen loved going to 50s PT but I thought that food wasn't as good as it used to be recently. Of course the PB&J milkshake is always good but I'm not sure if we'll eat there this year or not. I have no TS booked for HS at all yet, I just find the restaurants to be pretty underwhelming.

Hi, my husband & I have eaten at 50's Prime Time & The Brown Derby. The Derby is more upscale (expensive) with a nice atmosphere but we both actually prefer 50's Prime Time more. We weren't wild about the food at Brown Derby, our apps came out cold (supposed to be hot) & our mains were undercooked & over seasoned. At 50's though, we found the food to be quite good & enjoyed looking at the décor (some of which we had definitely seen in our grandmother's houses, as well as our mom's houses:) The pot roast was great & the shakes were so yummy. They're two very different restaurants with very different experiences but for us 50's is a redo & Brown Derby is re-don't. Hope this helps a little, have fun planning!

Thanks for the suggestions and the warm welcome! I'm leaning towards 50's Prime Time because the theming sounds really fun and interactive.
