Hello all
I'm glad to have found such a mine of information as we get ready to take our two boys (5 and almost 3) for a first trip to Disney in just 2 weeks - I'm very over-excited! First of many questions from me I'm afraid! We are planning to book a character meal, probably lunch at Lucky Nugget as a treat for the kids for the penultimate day and probably also Agrabah for the first day - treat for DH who is veggie (but eats fish!). We are staying for 5 nights so am also toying with a meal at Walts at parade time.

Question 1 - DS 2 is almost 3 - will they check as I believe he should eat free at both as they are buffets - I prefer to leave his passport in the safe but will I need to prove his age or will they take my word for it?

Question 2 - I have plumped for the Lucky Nugget character lunch over Cafe Mickey character dinner as am thinking will be nice to break the day up and have a good chunk of indoor time in case of inclement weather - any thoughts on the food available and character interaction at either? This meal is for the kids and DH is happy to muddle along with whatever is available for veggies and the kids like buffets - like to taste a bit of lots of things.

Question 3 - sorry please be tolerant! My children are (thankfully) not picky eaters - has anyone noticed if their is a childrens selection at Agrabah and if so what is it or can they eat the adult food?

Many thanks - you will be very tired of me in a few days I'm sure.

Hi,

I can't help with the Agrabah I'm afraid, haven't made it there yet for a meal.

I took dd to Cafe Mickey for dinner last month, and we had the buffet lunch at the Lucky Nugget 3 days ago.

My personal opinion of both - Cafe Mickey was very very busy (people were getting turned away without a prior reservation at 7.30pm, and they were told there were no available tables until 10pm). The food was okay, not a huge selection for kids though I felt. The character interaction is great, but its very chaotic when the restaurant is busy. Its also very noisy. Don't get me wrong, we both did enjoy it.

Lucky Nugget lunch - we booked at City Hall for this, for 1pm. Great timing for us. The restaurant decor is really great here, cosy too. We saw the live band perform on stage while we were there (an hour and a half) and the characters came out every half hour, and stayed the whole time (ie 3 or 4 each half-hour). We had Robin Hood, Sherrif of Nottingham, Gepetto, Minnie, Mickey, Eeyore, Pluto and Goofy. The restaurant wasn't full - only the main floor and the first level of counters were being used. The food is very good here I think, on a par with Plaza Gardens buffet. I had one hungry horace and one bird-like eater with me, and they both liked it.

The character interaction here, in my opinion, was far better at the Lucky Nugget compared with Cafe Mickey. Probably because is was quieter, but also because the characters do stay out the whole time - there is barely a break of 5 minutes between one set leaving and another set coming in. Gepetto spent ages dancing with the little ones along to the music of the live band too.

It did pleasantly break up the day for us too, in the middle of the day, without having to leave the park.

Thanks Elaine. Sounds like Lucky Nugget will be fun. Our first day will be Sunday so think a longer lunch out of the cold may be a good thing as we expect it to be busy and think DH will enjoy the Agrabah by the recent posts. None of us have been to Disney before and I'm sooo excited. What a fabulous resource this is - wouldn't have had a clue about booking restaurants and choosing them beforehand otherwise. Dh has been mildly amused by my poring over online menus etc coutesy of the links provided here.

Hi freckleface and welcome to DLP DIS board :wave2:
We are a friendly bunch here so please join in on any other thread or if you have a number of questions then just start a new thread for each :goodvibes

If you have not had a look yet, DLP posting rules are here, DIS posting guidelines can be found here.

Unless your DS is exceptionally tall for his age most restaurants will be happy to take your word :)

In restaurants that are buffet selections DD always takes from the adult section :)
