Restaurant Poll Series: Boma

After a few threads discussing a la carte service, we decided to spotlight a buffet in the poll series. The first few restaurants we've discussed have been the source of some heated debate, but Boma's reviews seem to mostly stay on the positive side. How do the numbers really stack up? Will the poll reveal an overwhelming majority of "yea" votes? Please vote in the poll and, as always, feel free to comment if you wish to elaborate on your choice.

DH and I did this Dec 09. It was hot, loud and cramped. We had one of the first seatings of the night so we thought it wouldn't get that bad till later. The line to get to the buffet was fairly long and there wasn't much we liked on it. To us Tusker House was better than Boma. So, this Dec we're going back to Tusker House instead.

Last year me and my family ate at Boma. To give a little background my brother is DEATHLY allergic to tree nuts (pine nuts/Pignolo). Almost dying when he was little. We had checked the menu and asked over the phone when we made the ressie if they used any kinds of nuts, they said no. Then when we arrived the chef came out to take my brother on a tour of what he can and cannot eat (like they do in Disney) Unfortunately his English was not the best and he went to fast for my brother to to understand him Then when my brother went up to get his food (assuming they did not have any nuts) while up there though he saw they had hummus and a roasted meat with almonds on it. My mom then went up and asked the chef if the hummus had pine nuts. Instead of just telling her a yes or no he got rude. That is when we left and went to Epcot figuring they have the most places to eat. We never thought that we could get in a TS but we gave Nine Dragons a try. Even though the whole lobby was full and people were waiting outside they took us right in after my dad told them what happened. It ended up the food was amazing at ND and it became one of our faves (so much so that we made another reservation for it later on in the trip)

We have been to breakfast at Boma's 3 times & have always enjoyed it. We are trying dinner for the first time this August. I'm a little nervous since my daughter is a very picky eater!!

My kids are picky eaters, but this is still one of their must-do meals. We love spending time exploring DAKL and then dining at Boma.

When we went in Dec this was one of the ressies I was looking most forward to.
Unfortunately I didn't like the dishes. I don't like sweet spices on my "food", for dessert that is fine, but I don't like my beef or veggies to taste like Christams...way to much cinnamon in everything.

Food wasn't bad, just not our taste at all.

We liked Boma for both the food, service and atmosphere. We've done it for both breakfast and dinner and would definately go back!

We still like Boma. I find that it is not as enjoyable when very busy--last time we were there it ws really noisy. They were not refilling some of the food quickly enough, and the line was long. Having said that, I think that the quality of most dishes is rather good, and it offeres an interesting and exotic dinner alternative.

We really liked breakfast at Boma but we've never done dinner...we've always had a great server and our food has always been wonderful.

Although I do like Boma as it is a great choice for Vegetarians, I think that the food quality has declined over the last few years and it is not really what it used to be. I used to eat dinner there at least once every trip, however I am leaning more towards a Boma breakfast and visiting Tusker House for dinner next time.

this one could use a separation...Boma Breakfast as one poll, Boma dinner as a different poll. I voted NO on this one, assuming you were referring to dinner.

We really, really did NOT like Boma dinner...ewww on the seasonings, and as other poster has mentioned hot/crowded/hectic, etc. Bad food,horrible atmosphere/ambiance.

But Boma breakfast is another story...calm, peaceful, not crowded and wonderful food.

Love the food at Boma! Great and interesting variety. Service was terrific too and they treated my son so nicely because we were celebrating his 4th birthday.

You lost me. Was your brother's english not that good or the chef? And what exactly happened that the chef got rude? I thought they gave your brother a tour of the non-nut foods. sorry, just confused...

Nay for us. We're very basic meat & potatoes type eaters and we don't like the menu. We also don't spend any real time at AK so this would be a place we would have to go out of our way to get to and frankly it doesn't beckon us to seek it out.

For all of those who did not enjoy dinner at Boma, I would suggest going for breakfast. Most African dinner fare requires a liking for some (to us Westerners) odd flavor combinations. However, breakfast foods are much more in line with how we eat here... Delicious every time!!!

Let's put it this way... Boma would be worth the cost of an airplane ticket to fly down to eat for the night! I told my husband that during our last trip to WDW in May!
