Hi,
We are staying pre-cruise at the Hyatt Orlando airport and were wondering if the hotel restaurant is good for dinner and if not, if there are other nearby options other than the "terminal" food.

Thanks!

I once had dinner at the restaurant at the Hyatt. That is the one on the same level as the lobby (there's another one on the top floor). It was pretty good, but as you'd expect, kind of pricey. I usually get dinner at the Shipyard Brewery, in the terminal. It has a limited menu, but the food is pretty good. The beer on tap is very good. There are a couple of restaurants in the terminal which are a step above fast food.

Another note on the Hyatt, skip the breakfast buffet in the upstairs restaurant. It's really pricey, and not very good, in my opinion.

so we decided to eat in the terminal - breakfast was in the typical fast food court (Cinabons) and our was actually at Downtown Disney - we rented a car (cheaply through priceline) and spent the afternoon and evening Downtown. The fast food court as well as the sit-down restaurants in the airport are fine. Hyatt restaurant is pricey and I understand extremely slow at breakfast - that is why we opted for Cinabons (yum).

I looked on the Hyatt web site and they have a restaurant and a bar & grill.

I have flown thru MCO Airport serveral times being a former flight attendant and they have a food court with a cafe, yogurt, cookies, Burger King, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Sbarro Pizza and a Chili's.

I am not sure how far the walk is from the hotel to the restaurant but I am staying there in August so if anyone knows please advise.

Thank you for your wonderful input! We are on the 2/22/03 Magic and can't wait!!!

If you mean the Hyatt's restaurant, the walk is not far at all. It's maybe 100 feet or so from the desk and elevators to the restaurant.

There are many options in the terminal which I feel are better than the Hyatt's restaurants. For breakfast, we like the bagel place. On the morning of the cruise, I don't like to fill up, the better to pig out once onboard!

Thanks for the advice about the Hyatt breakfast. Slow and spendy is not a good combination.
Senor Ferrari-- does the Shipyard Brewery allow kids or is it strictly a tavern sort of establishment? By limited menu do you mean burgers and fries (which would be more than ample considering what we'll be eating for the next 7 days) :) And by beer on tap being very good do you mean a variety of microbrew selections? That might be more important to me considering the choices on the ship that Dave has listed on his site

TeamMom,

Yes, the menu at the shipyard is basically bar food, burgers and the like. That's just fine for me. A few years ago, they had some great boneless "buffalo wings," but they were gone the last time I was there. I believe they do allow children. There is a fairly large seating area, with both smoking and non-smoking sections.

They do have a pretty good selection of micro-brews. Like most brew pubs, they also offer a beer sampler. They are affiliated the Shipyard (or maybe it's called "Lighthouse") brewery in Portland, ME. I went to school there, so it's a bit of nostalgia for me, too.

After flying across the country, it's a nice relaxed atmosphere. Combined with staying at the Hyatt, it's a nice way to unwind after the flight and rest up for the cruise. The convenience of not having to collect a rental car or find a shuttle to an off-site hotel is worth the added cost for me.

We usually arrive at MCO at around 5:00pm, check into the hotel, take a quick swim, shower, and then dinner and a few beers at the pub. It gets us to bed early and ready to go the next morning.

The Hyatt is actually in the terminal. It's not very far at all. The past few times, we've flown Delta, it seemed that the lobby was just upstairs from the baggage claim for the Delta flights.
