Just booked dining at Norway at 7:30. Is this a good place to watch Illuminations? We have never eaten there. Will DD5 find simple kids stuff for her to eat? Thanks!

I don't think you can see Illuminations from inside the restaurant. But, I doubt it will take you 1 1/2 hours to enjoy your dinner. After your meal, you can find a viewing spot anywhere along World Showcase promenade.

Thanks guys. I guess I was not specific. How is the quality of the food? I did find the kids menu thanks! I think I do want to try this restaurant before any changes are made for the all princess all the time meals.

Also, I guess I meant: is the viewing from Norway good? We always seem to end up anywhere from Morrocco to the UK and never have we been on that side of the world during Illuminations. So I was just wondering if we stepped out of the restaurant would that be a good place to end up. Thanks. :D

Make sure you order the Troll cookie for your little one. It is a huge sugar cookie that comes with edible paints. She'll be busy painting while you eat! The food is great here - enjoy!

Oh neat. I had not realized when it said edible paint that she paints it. Cool. Oh for the rice dream alone I will try this place. Thanks to the people of this board who led me to my first one this last December. yummy!

I may be in the minority here, but that's OK!

We had dinner at Akershus last Saturday and we really didn't like it that much!

The salad/cold bar didn't have much variety of "normal" stuff. I had a tossed salad, some cheese and some bread. DS had some shaved turkey and ham, and some cheese. We all enjoyed the peel-n-eat shrimp.

DS ordered the mac & cheese, which is basically what he ate the entire trip! DH and I ordered the salmon, which was ok, but not the best I ever had. The other items on the entree menu were lamb, poached cod, venison stew (which DH also tried), a pasta dish with chicken (which I also tried), and I think that was it. When I looked on allears there was a chicken breast, but not when we were there!

The vegetables were tiny portions and took FOREVER to come to the table. We gave up after the first tiny dish of veggies - we would have been there all night waiting for more. I REALLY wish (and DH agreed) that the veggies should be on the buffet line. There were only three choices - a small steam table would have been plenty of room! I can understand having the entrees one at a time, but the veggies should have been accessible.

Drinks and desserts are NOT included in the buffet price, which is fine, but we weren't inspired to order dessert after dinner took so long.

DH and I both felt like this was our least favorite sit down meal.

Hi there
jackskellingtonsgirl - what veggies were offered. How was the chicken pasta thing? Was the other food on the cold table weird/different or just bad? does the allearsmenu correctly reflect it? How did the hot food work. You had to order one then try it before ordering another or order all at the same time. Sorry so many questions but I am now a tiny bit concerned. Thanks

The veggies that were offered on our visit were "seasonal" vegetables which was a medley of zucchini, carrots, onions, and maybe yellow squash. DH and I both asked for them but they only brought one portion and it was SMALL. The others listed were boiled potatoes and mashed rutbaga.

The pasta with chicken was pretty good - pasta noodles with red sauce and pieces of grilled chicken.

You are allowed as many hot entrees as you wish, but you may only order one at a time so your food is fresh (and I am assuming so you don't waste it!). Since the veggies are on the menu with the entrees I wasn't quite clear on that. We seemed to have trouble getting veggies!

The things on the buffet are (I am guessing) Norwegian things - herring, mackeral, goat cheese, cold scrambled eggs (the bowl was sitting in ice), tuna salad with mustard (DH liked that), beets, other things I don't recall. I think the allears menu is accurate for the most part, but I think they change the entrees without warning.

They did say DS could order from the kids menu or the adult one, but there really wasn't anything on the adult menu he would eat. That was why I was disappointed about the chicken breast!

My DS is picky and I am not very adventurous with food. DH is more adventurous but we both came away feeling a little less than thrilled!

As far as I am concerned this is the best restaurant in the whole of WDW. The number of salads and the veriety of fish is amazing. I can honestly say that I cant fault it(I am an avid cook and foodie!) Try the beef salad - it is great. My kids love it. In fact it is the only restaurant we never miss. I seldom see bad reviews for it. Just be aware of the type of food it serves.
As far as the length ot time needed is concerned - we always go at 7pm and are just out in time for the Illuminations. I consider it a joy to sit and linger over such delicious food. We leave about 15 minutes before the start and wander down a little further to find a good spot. Dont forget to order the troll cookie. In fact all the desserts are delicious.
It is a joy to eat such great food after all the fast food in the parks. Go! - and enjoy it. You wont regret it.
