Restauran for vegetarian child

Hi thanks for all the advice I've picked up from these forums. We went to DLP last summer and had only one problem. My 10 year old daughter had recently decided to be vegetarian but had problems finding suitable meals - most restaurants seemed to offer either vegetarian meals or children's meals -but not a vegetarian child's meal. She hasn't got a big appetite so couldn't tackle an adult meal. Also when vegetarian was available it was really boring - usually pasta in tomato sauce and she really didn't think this was exciting enough to be tempting. We're returning at Easter and I was wondering whether anyone could recommend the best places to head for, where vegetarian meals are given a bit more thought - or whether there is anywhere online I could look at menus.

Hi and welcome to Disboards.

All the menus are on this site www.dlpfoodguide.com

This will give you an idea of what each place serves. I am afraid there is not much choice in kiddie portions.

Hope this helps

Thanks for such a quick reply - I had found that page but had somehow missed the tab that says "menu"!!! I've had a quick look - it seems as though she's either going to have to live on pasta in tomato sauce, leave half of an adults meal or get a big appetite pretty quickly. Alternatively she could just have chips and a pudding! There is a vegetarian chilli at Billy Bob's and a jacket potato with cheese sauce so that looks good - but nothing much at Walts where I'd hoped to go. Shame really to spend so much on a meal she doesn't particularly like. Maybe I can learn to ask in French for a half portion of an adult meal. Oh well, I'm sure we'll manage.

Can't help with vegetarian, apart from consider the buffet option which may offer more choice for DD. She'll pay as a child but can choose from any of the buffet selection :)

I posted quite a few reviews from a veggie viewpoint. Yes, Disney is really bad about serving pasta and tomato sauce at its US parks and in France. But how about a toasted cheese/mushroom sandwich from Victoria's, or tomato soup at many counter serve locations. Or a baguette at the train station (which was much better than the sandwich place in Disney Village)

King Ludwigs was one of my favourite places for veggie food.

Also, note that if your daughter is veggie, the french like to sneak in items and then call them veggie - 'well, it's just a LITTLE fish in the dressing, therefore we mark it veggie' :confused3

Walts didn't have a veggie entree but I was offered a larger portion of the tomato appy, which was excellent. That and a dessert filled me up.

Auberge de Cendrillion was another good option - lots of veggie items on the appy buffet.

Silver Spur had a veggie appy and a veggie entree (veggie pie, which was very good)

The buffets at Sequoia Lodge and Newport Bay were not worth it and the staff didn't want to help find options, so don't waste your money there.

Hotel NY did have veggie items but I didn't eat there.

Also some of the menus at dlpfoodguide.com are no longer up to date, just FYI.

If you need more info, feel free to ask me or PM me - happy to help!

Do you know which of the restaurant menus are out of date?
I'm not to bothered by changing prices but my friends son is a picky eater so we're using there menus to decide from :confused3

I think that the SL ones were out of date last time I looked - one is now a buffet but was not listed as such. Someone more familiar the menus can better comment on which ones need updating.

Most of the DL ones seemed pretty up to date, but I did find that I had to do some of my own research when I got on site. (I'm used to that due to the poor veggie offerings in past at WDW)

When we did the Plaza Gardens buffet back in 04 - there was a very nice selection of pizza, salads, vegetables and pasta, but that was a while ago now, so it might have changed.

Sorry, not much help really.

Thanks Bavaria for your ideas. The snacky type things should be fine, it's the "lets treat ourselves and have a wonderful meal" type things that I felt she missed out on. But I think we can go to Annette's as they have a nice sounding veggie burger (albeit adult size) and we missed going there last time. I think we'll wait until we're there and check out Walts too and see if we can sort something out - see what the veggie appie is. I also suspect that once she realise about the cinderella's slipper dessert she may be willing to put up with a somewhat less exciting main course! Can I book when I get there for a couple of days time?

Well I'm off to study menus again!

Thanks all.

Sorry Bavaria - what does SL mean? I've been racking my brains and came up with ?land but can't fill in the blank!!

Last, we were at Walt's (September 06) they had two veggie starters. Tomato tartar with basil and mozzarella and the hot goat cheese. Ok the goat cheese is not childrens most wanted flavour.

SL is Seqouia Lodge.

At Walts the appy was a sundried tomato spread with toasted bread. At Blue Lagoon it was a cold bulger dish which was not my favourite.

I can usually get by with appy, bread, and dessert and I definitely have a larger than child appetite! :rotfl:

Take a look at the restaurant review stickies at the top - I posted about most of my meals that I ate over a 5 week span.

With buffets, I always ask if I can take a look at the buffet before I decide to eat there. If there is not enough choice, I pass.
