Sure, if you've been to Disney/Florida before *maybe* you don't need to rush around all the time but I was thinking that on our last trip [only our second] we didn't have a rest day.

I did plan things - quiet park days, where to eat on some days, what we really wanted to see and what we would quite like to see, etc, etc, and in amongst these things were 3 lazy days. We were supposed to lie around the villa's pool, maybe cook a meal, but generally not do anything which required getting up early or walking around.

As it happened, come midday we were bored. Without prompting, the kids [9,12,15] all wanted to go and do something - even on the last couple of days of the holiday [we were there for 2 weeks]. Thank goodness we had the Ultimate passes, so we could do something Disney when the mood took us.

OK, DW enjoyed the 2 water park days, so she could get a rest while the rest of us played, but I suppose what I'm getting at is you don't *need* to force yourselves to have a quiet day. Everyone's different of course, but for us it was an intense 2 weeks and all the better for it. "Spend a day in the villa kids?"..."Awwww...no. Let's do something."

If only I could get them to be so animated at home.

even after 40 visits, we still don't have any rest days.....and even though we usually go for 3 weeks.....
on the other hand, we never go to any park (theme or water) for more than just a few hours.......that's just enough park for any one day for us....
and we just wander around now, doing what strikes our fancy....no more commando style (except when they add a new attraction)....

We always have rest days, although like Beth it is very rare if we spend say more than 4 hours or so at a time at any park.

Staying in a villa gives us time to relax and we do like to stay in sometimes, but never all day, a rest day is a day where we do different things, shopping, watching Joshua play in the pool, a day at the beach etc....our first couple of days are generally Universal and then MK - after that we just see how we feel.

Whilst we love the parks, it would feel a bit like theme park overload if we went every day, especially as we go each year.
And in August it's too hot to spend too much time outdoors, so we often have a trip out to Clearwater and we are going to Miami and Fort Lauderdale this year also.

I would call a "rest day" one where we would not visit a theme park and maybe shop for the day at a slower pace. Or even go to Sea World, which involves a lot of sitting and watching shows etc.

I should add that my husband works while we're there.
He's connected 24/7 and typically works about 8 hours a day while we're at WDW (usually 2 hours in the early morning before the kids get up, again for about 3 hours in the afternoon when we get back from the parks, and again at night for about 3 or 4 hours).....and he usually calls in a few times while we're at the parks......and of course he has his mobile with him all the time if they need to get hold of him....
he can pretty much work from anywhere in the world, so that's how we're able to go on 'holiday' for so long and so often (not just to WDW).....

of course it means little sleep for him, but it's the sacrifice he's wiling to make to be with us....about 10 years ago, I went with the kids to WDW by myself for 3 weeks....it was the worst 3 weeks of DH's life...he hated being away from us...so now he goes with us, regardless (even though, if truth be told, he's not a disneyholic...not at all).....

in any case, while he's working in the afternoons, the 3 of us are resting....veging out in front of the tv, swimming, playing on one of the other laptops with us (we usually have 3 laptops with us), etc..

Like Soprano, we count our rest days as those on which we're not rushing around a park like mad things trying to fit everything in. That may mean a shopping trip or water park but we never have a day where we don't do anything at all.

we class a waterpark day as our rest day or a pool day, waterpark in morning shop in the afternoon

As the title says - Rest days - Nah. We spend a few afternoons around the pool resting (although I'd rather be shopping ;) ) and we dont eat out every evening so we can get some early nights.

We always do parks in the morning and sometimes head back to the Disney parks in the evening but are never in the park during the afternoon - it means we miss the afternoon parades (and thunderstorms) but that's not a big problem for us.

It's really only MK where we stay out late and we'll only watch the fireworks and Spectromagic parade once over the 3 week holiday. The next day I'll schedule in a park where you can start a bit later (e.g. Seaworld).

It's not a big difference at home either where weekends are spent shuttling kids between swimming, football, rugby, tennis, sleepovers....

Rest - who needs it when you have coffee.. :surfweb:

Rest days for us have tended to be lunch at ESPN and then fantasia golf with pleasure island for the evening. I agree with the other posters who say a rest day is simply a day doing other things rather than rushing around the parks. :cat:

I always put in a rest day on our itinery, every 3rd or 4th day, and we never have one! It is almost like the adrenaline kicks in and we are scared of missing anything........you can rest plenty, i always say to the kids, when you are back home.

Even when we sit by the hotel pool or at the water parks my mind is racing ahead planning what to do next...........i know sad isn't it!!!!! :cool2:

rest Day :lmao:

we can do that when we are at home :lmao:

we never spent to much time in the room ( would anly start to fight :rolleyes1 )

We usualy go with the flow and see's what happens

for us resting is spending some time at the pool

The boys like going for they midnight swim befor bed time each night
Me I usualy crash out before that
and hear nothing untill the morning

Class rest day as going shopping and getting up late. We never really do nothing.

900th post woohoo :cool1:

I dont do rest days. The biggest rest day we have is half a day in the parks and then the rest of the day shopping. I couldnt bear to lie in or sit around the pool! :)

We do not have rest days as such, but we do not go rushing around at any time, it is a holiday afterall. With a bit of planning we do everythign we want, but do not have to rush around to do it, we also have some lie ins and some early nights.

Rest days for us are days where we will do lots of shopping, perhaps visit Celebration, have a leisurely lunch at a resort or afternoon tea or a spa treatment. Usually after these days we will go into a park for a couple of hours and catch a show.

We dont have "rest" days as such but as we have been so many times and usually for about 2-3weeks each time we never feel the need to cram things in, not like i wont be going back! i just enjoy doing things at my own pace, going back for a swim in the afternoon or a day at a waterpark every now and then suits me!

no rest days here either.
we spent everyday in a theme park, although sometimes it was half a day with a bit of shopping thrown in.We didn't fly round the parks like idiots so we never really felt tired :cheer2:
