We would like to make a res for Jan., but our use year is Oct. Do I need to wait until Oct. for our new points to be available, or can I make it now?

You can make it at the 11 month window for your home resort and 7 for all others...

use year has nothing to do with when you can call to make a reservation. nothing at all.

my pts for 2014 are already in my account when i look at the member site. i am limited in that i can only borrow them forward one year and that i can only book my home resort 11 months in advance.

so if you want to make a reservation for jan 2013, you could have called in feb 2012 to book your home resort.

but start by figuring what "use year" you will actually "use" the pts in:

jan 2013 is in your 2012 use year (oct 1, 2012 to sept 30, 2013)

so when you called in feb 2012, you could have used banked 2011 pts (if any) + current 2012 pts (current based on the dates of the stay, not when you call) + borrowed 2013 pts (if needed).

The points need to be in your account at the time of your stay.

If you look at your account online, you should see October 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014. There's no waiting for your use year to start to get points. Any points you could possibly use are already there.
