Another thread asked what it was, revealing that many, myself included, hate this expression. What would be wrong with res? Or rez? Ressie? sounds sooo cutsie and precious....
i don't mind the word or the fact that it is used as an abbreviation. i work in a restaurant and the word "ressie" is always used when refering to a reservation.
I can take it or leave it, but it has always seemed somewhat affected to me (or "twee" as they say in Britain). It's like saying someone is "preggers".
I don't see the big deal one way or the other...it's just an abbreviation. It's no worse than using Poly for the Polynesian or the unending versions of D-whoever.
"And we're leading the poll right now."
Just for argument's sake, those who hate it are in the minority.
The majority of people aren't bothered by the use of the term "ressie" at all. I think it's safe to assume that if you like it or love it, you're not bothered by it.
I hate the term, along with a number of others. The whole word only has 4 more letters. It can't be that much more time consuming to type. Also, why does it say that I'm not allowed to vote in this pole at the top of the page?
Can't stand the term!! I think "res" is actually a better abbreviation. It is shorter and everyone is going to know exactly what someone is referring to. Just go ahead and type out reservation. It is not that bad. I think that most abbreviations are just shortened forms of the word, with the other term you are actually adding a syllable to the end of it. -ies is not in "reservations". Maybe I have this strong dislike because it reminds me of a not-so-nice girl that I knew who some referred to as "Nessie" (Notice I never did write that term that we are discussing.)
I don't mind it. When I worked in a restaurant we called reservations "resos". (How we got that abbreviation I don't know, but it does sound better then ressie!).
