Ressie with no tickets.. can I purchase tickets in UT and then apply value to AP?

Hi..
I have a couple of resort reservations in 2021, dates beyond the expiration date of my current AP... so, my plan A is to wait tomorrow to see if I can extend AP..

Plan B: purchase park tickets tomorrow (direct or undercover tourist) and later on ask to upgrade them to an AP...
Is it feasible?

People have had luck recently getting an AP renewal as the extensions actually took people out of the 60 day renewal window,

However, if you buy 2021 tickets, I know they can be used to upgrade to a new AP...I do not know if they can be used toward a renewal as I have never needed to do that.

Do you know how did they make the renewal? I have tried calling DVC and WDW and both times they told me that AP were not available...

I have read mostly WDW ticketing....I’d give them another call! We are finding that sometimes different CMs seem to have different level of knowledge.
