Ressie question

I've invited friends to come with us to VB next year, they will stay for a 3 night weekend, and we'll be there Wednesday and Thursday nights before they come. We'll have different accomodations, we're getting 2 ov rooms for guests and we'll have a studio. I will make these ressies 11 months out. If at 7 months, we decide to go to WDW for the Wednesday and Thursday, and there is room to use our VB points, will MS have to cancel our entire studio stay and then would we be subject to availablility? One way to get around this would be for us to book a studio just for the 2 nights and then get a ov room for us as well for the long weekend, but DH prefers a studio due to TV/VCR watching while sitting on the sofa.

I guess this question would also apply to staying "home" at BWV and then wanting to change part of the stay to VWL if friends prefered that resort. Can anyone help me understand these scenerios?

I've dropped a day or two more than once to my reservation made at 11 months. The days were always at the beginning or end of my reservation.

Have kept same reservation number, received new confirmation letter and it's not been a problem.

As far as I know, the inital reservation was not cancelled, just modified. I did not change room type or view category (my ressie was for BWV). Believe you would be subject to cancellation and rebooking if you wanted to do that (change something other than length of stay), but it doesn't sound like you do.

In May when I thought Dnephew was returning from Irag - I had made ressie at OKW for a 2bdrm for 8 nights - when his stay was extended(now will be home in early to mid july) I called to change the ressie to a 1bdrm for only 4 nights(since DH and DD already had plane tics) and they canceled the 2bdrm and gave me a new ressie for the 1 bdrm.
