Ressie Question from a Newbie

I was planning a trip in late April 2005 for 5 nights (Sun-Thur) at VWL.
My brother and his family will be joining us and he asked if we can stay an extra night, that means mega weekend DVC points so here is my question. If I reserved the extra nights using DVC points but find a good cash deal later for the weekend stay, will I be able change out one weekend night from points ressie to a cash ressie.
I have enough points to cover the extra weekend night but I was going to save those points for a trip to HH grand villa.

yes you can change - as long it is not borrowed points.

How about telling your brother than you don't have enough points - and that is true because you are planning a trip to HH......

and that he should consider paying cash.

unless you are have already agreed to it.

Yes, but there are a few things to think about if you do this.

Unless the cash night is reserved through MS, you may have to change rooms. There may not be a cash night available through MS, but of course it never hurts to ask and to keep checking.

If you reserve through CRO, you will at least have to check out and in again (different systems). As mentioned you may have to change rooms, but you can ask both CRO and MS to note the other confirmation number on the reservation with a request not to change. Mention your request again at check in. Believe most end up not having to change, but it is possible and it soes happen.

If you go the cash route, be sure to keep an eye on your cancellation and banking deadlines so you don't end up with points in holding or points that can't be used for the HHI trip.

All excellent points, thank you. My UY is December so banking deadline is not an issue on this trip. DVC weekend points are INSANE. I can rent those points (assuming I get $9-$10/pt), pay cash and still have money left over for a round of golf
I'm even considering buying a AP to take advantage of the AP rates. Thanks y'all.

One other issue is that if that night is sold out, you can't just swap cash for points. You have to cancel then rebook subject to availability. That can be a problem in some cases. Of course you could book both the cash and points then cancel one or both if something better comes along. Don't forget about renting distressed points from another member as an option.
