First off, I am printing off all the info on trade/rent as we have not done this before. Before I do all the required reading, I just need to know if this is possible....

We have an existing ressie for Oct. We decided to replace this ressie & do the free dining & stay at a moderate to save points (hubby's b'day/doing dining anyway, etc...). I booked the moderate; got all the ADR's we wanted. Yesterday, I call MS to discover these are borrowed points (should have known that) so if I cancel, I have to use by 12/1 (would like to happen but probably won't, LOL). I have NOT cancelled this ressie but am just weighing my options.

Can a ressie be changed to another DVC member's name (if I find someone who wants it) & can they transfer points to me to use for April trip?

Again, I understand you can do 1 transfer/year but I don't want to give up a ressie, get the points to transfer, then it fall thru....I'd much rather "give the ressie" to someone who wants the dates & just have them give me the points for April use.....

This is getting more complex than I thought so may just cancel new moderate ressie & go w/original plan.....8 years w/DVC & this is a first for us.

Thanks for any help.

I know that you can change the names on the reservation. Whether or not you will find someone who is willing to give up points for it, I don't know, but I would guess that if you can, your situation is possible.

The biggest problem that I see is time. You won't be able to advertise that reservation until 30 days prior (rule of this board) so you would be under a time crunch.

Personally, if it were me, I would just keep things as is.

Good luck!

I want to emphasize what Sandisw has posted. If you decide to rent out your reservation, you cannot offer it on the R/T board here until you are within 30 days of check-in. This includes offering it in a "Reservation for Rent" thread, offering it in response to a "Reservation Wanted" thread (even if they are asking for your exact dates and resort) or any other use of the DISboards to solicit a renter such as sending a PM. The DIS allows users to rent out existing reservations only when cancelling the reservation would cause the points to go into the holding account (30 days or less from check in).

If you do decide to rent out the reservation (either for cash or a points transfer) you just need to call MS and change the name on the reservation.

Thanks to you both. I had not got that far in my reading about 30 days or less so this helps a lot.

Again, NEVER have we borrowed points like this past year....too many trips & HAD to get AP renewed in May (rainy trip--DH didn't want to use old tix since we may go to parks for just a few hours--so we bit the bullet & cashed them in for AP's) which means extra trips! Darn that Disney!

I really don't want to get into the trade/borrow thing as I'm just not very trusting....another main reason was health concerns w/my mom may change everything...I could be out $100 on the moderate ressie if not cancelled which, I'd& be ok w/, but hate to lose the points if an emergency happened....that was another factor.

Again, thanks!
