I'm having a problem believing security would entertain such a request..

If they did, I don't believe they could force you to show them or delete any of your personal photos. I do not agree that it is ok to take photos of someone else's kids without their permission (let me clarify this statement first: that means that the other person's child is the main subject, intentionally, of your photograph and that is what you set out to capture in the image). BUT as stated, you cannot expect to be in a park in the middle of summer and get photos of your own family without getting others in the background. Besides, with zooms on cameras it's very difficult to tell sometimes what a person is photographing. The camera may be pointed straight at them but zoomed in on a small part of something else nearby or behind them so that they don't feature at all.

Well my biggest issue with it is this... WDW security, for the most part, aren't in uniform.. So how did this person find them without making a big spectacle of themselves for security to "out" themselves for this situation?

Maybe by "security", she just means whichever CM was closest. And that poor CM then went and asked the person with the camera, for the sake of preventing a big scene, to please delete the offending photo. I don't think the person would necessarily have to agree to do it, but they probably would if they were nice people who didn't want an ugly confrontation with the parent. Particularly if the CM asked nicely.

I have a new fear regarding my next trip which is just a month off. It seems to me that pretty much everyone I see out in public with a cell phone these days is busily taking "selfies." And it's never just one picture, it's a dozen in a row, all with flash. It's bad enough when people are aiming their flashes forward--if I'm behind you in line, that's multiple flashes right in my eyes!

Boy, I sure hope I'm wrong to be dreading this...

I agree had to be a CM or handler if it actually happened.

Oh why did you have to open another can of worms???

I take a lot of photos and videos in the parks but there are some that I can't take photos of because I do not use my flash. I thing a lot of the time the person is unaware of how to turn off the flash and it seems that they come set up with flash as the default. Please if you are using new equipment familiarize yourself with it before you get to Disney. Your fellow guests will appreciate it

You want to be careful about "hiring" yourself out!! Disney seems to be cracking down on that lately ;)

Ha, yeah but that was for people trying to flout the rules, not enforce them. I can wear a super hero cape and people can call me Rule Girl to the Rescue! OK, I need to work on a better name, I'm not very creative.

maybe!! but maybe not... and I have been enough to know what I want pictures of. I tend to look for obscure things to take pictures of.
I also look for opportunities that are one time deals... not always the run of the mill photo. And on top of that, you have to spend the time scouring the internet looking for the picture and it is 'possible' that the photographer has put a copyright on their photo if it is a really good one. ;) That's why I prefer to shoot my own. I know what I want. Plus it is a part of my trip trying to find different angles of WDW thru a photo lens, but not at the detriment of other guests! :goodvibes

Yeah, but I don't think that applies to the bazillions of people with their camera phones held above their heads. I guarantee you they aren't getting once in a lifetime shots.

I'm one of those guys that loves to capture on video just about every part of our vacation at WDW. I've been doing it since I bought my first camcorder back in '89, a big ol' RCA VHS monster that sat on my shoulder and made me squint through a tiny B&W viewfinder. Back then, I could only capture about 2 hours worth of video at a time, due to the limitations of both battery-life and tape length at that time. Since then, I've migrated from that medium to Hi8, and now I've got two digital camcorders.

The biggest difference in these cameras is the size. Now, with the cameras being so much smaller, it's a heck of a lot easier to hold my camcorder in such a way that does not interfere with anyone's view (other than mine, and that's my business), nor does it encroach on another's enjoyment of the ride/show/attraction/etc. And, I DO take the time and steps to minimize any interference that might occur from my video"taping" (still using old-school terminology). I've learned how to operate my cameras so I can abide by the rules that the park provides, and even more so, to maximize the quality of the footage I collect.

I'm not one to post on youtube or the like, but I do love to record my footage onto the current medium for playback at home. Yup, I've got dozens of old VHS tapes and, more recently, DVDs of past trips to see the mouse. Does my family and I watch them? You bet! Sure, not all the time, but when we're in the mood for a little taste of the fun, it's the next best thing to being there. And, I've got some excellent footage of some rides and shows that just aren't there anymore. I don't sell this stuff or post it online; I enjoy it at home with my family and friends.

I can certainly understand, relate to, and appreciate all the bad experiences that folks have shared with fellow-park visitors that don't know how to properly use their equipment. It peeves me, too! And those folks who just don't seem to care about what YOU think of their photography habits? Don't have much use for them, either.

But please don't assume all of the amateur photographers and videophiles fall into these two categories. There are many of us that do know how to properly shoot an image or scene, and care enough about our fellow park visitors to try our best not to bother them. :scratchin

Judging from the poll above, most folks would prefer NOT to see any sort of bans imposed, at least not on top of what's already in place. And, since the topic of this thread concerns respect for others, it's not limited to just photography and filming...

This past August, while visiting everybody's favorite, the Carousel of Progress, my family and I were lucky enough to sit up front in the revolving theater. Although I had my videocamera on my lap, and could have recorded the entire show with it remaining in that position (unbeknownst to anyone but me), I respected the castmembers request for no photography or video-taping, and kept my camera off (scout's honor!). However, a family of four seated two rows behind us (and not even directly behind us), decided to talk during the entire CoP ride/show! And not in low tones! In my opinion, that was just as much a "show spoiler" as any of the previously cited examples. :sad2:

So, yes, good manners are appreciated on all levels, and please don't hate me just because I like to capture the moment. :wave2:

Thanks for reading this far. :mic:

Me too, I can take pictures of anything I want in a public place. If I want to take a picture of a character and your kid is in the shot, oh well.

Why do people want pics of other people in their photos. Posed photos I mean.. A crowd or parade photo, or a scenic pic I get. I just don't get posed character shots of people I don't even know. Even if WDW is a public place. There are tons of public places I would never consider taking pictures in or of.

Probably because it has nothing to do with the secondary people in the picture. It is just a chance to get a shot of the character or celebrity.

Then I would get in line and get one. I still don't get it.

Lol, don't shoot the messenger. Just a straight answer to a question.

I was a nanny for a friend of the is osbournes many moons ago. THe fact was that when you are with famous people you are very likely going to have a picture taken. Even if you are a nobody. :)

People should get in line. They just choose not to.

Not shooting you.sorry if it came that way. I just don't get it. It's not a moment or memory really from your vacation. And if you share pics how do people explain the child or family in the picture. I think that's my biggest interest is explaining who the person you don't know is. Lol

Who are you explaining it to? If you are a family that can appreciate a farther away picture of a character, you don't need to explain it to anyone. And maybe the picture is zoomed in so you don't see the other person. Regardless, the people in the picture simply don't matter to the picture taker. They are irrelevant and unnoticed. Just like all the people passing between your group posing and the castle. They are irrelevant and pretty much invisible.

I'm talking about people taking a picture of me or someone else standing next to a character for a posed shot. Someone snaps photo walking by of me and tigger I'm pretty much in their pic if its a far away shot. If they zoom in on the character alone it's an awkward pic but ok for them. I know a guy was taking pics of me with Jack Sparrow my partner saw it on his camera screen.., again if they share pics from their trip with others how are they explaining me or someone else to the people their showing. " oh here's jack sparrow and some random dude" really???. Again not really their moment or memory it's mine. I get people do it I just think its very weird . If I were posting trip pics on Facebook and I say here's Pooh and sone 4 year old girl I don't know. My friends would think that's creepy and so do I And you cam get a photo of the character alone by waiting in line and with you. I do it all the time. It's very common.

I'm not talking about people in the background of your photos like of the castle of at character meals, it's obvious what's going on there.

Maybe they don't want to wait in line and would rather crop out the "random dude". It is easy enough to do.
