Our upcoming trip has had many difficulites, the latest being the passing away of my father last week after a two and a half year battle with lung cancer. DH is insisting that we still go next week as he says I need the time away. Out of six kids I am the only one living near my Mom, as she hasn't been alone for over 56 years I am trying to get her to come with us. She has never been to DW or even to Florida and is afraid she will not be able to "stand up" to the walking. Finally to my question: it seems I remember that some of the resorts have wheelchairs that you can use?? We do have my dad's that we could bring but it does take up lots of room in the van. We are staying at the ASMu. I know we can rent one at the parks, but I had to pay air fare for DS and wife to come for funeral so money is tight so thought it might me worth a shot. Anyone know if they are available, and if I could inquire about use of one when I do my room request?
Thanks

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that your DM will go along with you, it will be a nice break for all of you. The phone number at All Star Music is 1-407-939-7222. They will be able to tell you what they have available. I think there is also an outside company that you can rent from for less than at the parks and they will deliver to your hotel. I do not know the number but try asking on the disabilities board.:)

If you post on the DisAbilities board they have LOTS of info.

I don't know if they have wheelchairs available at AllStars, but they would be on a first come first serve basis. There are outside rental companies that deliver and the rates are much better than at the parks. The folks on the DisAbilities board are awesome and can provide the names of those companies and other great tips.

Hope this helps!:D

Thanks for the nice "plugs" for the disABILITIES Board.
Here's the quick scoop on wheelchairs. They are available at the resorts free of charge, but they are first come first served and can't be reserved. Some people have posted that the available wheelchair didn't fit their needs - like all they had was an extra wide wheelchair, when they needed a narrow one, or vice versa. As well as calling the resort, you can try the WDW Resort Special Reservations:
(407) 939-7807
(407) 939-7670 [TTY]
They are the people who deal with special needs questions for the resorts.

If you rent at the parks, the price is $6 a day ($5 plus a $1 deposit). Here's a link to the DIS page about touring with mobility disabilities. If you park hop, show your receipt and you will be able to get another wheelchair without charge.
It is less expensive to rent from one of the outside rental places. I don't know the prices (since DD has her own wheelchair), but if you follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES Board, I'm sure you'll get an answer. Here's a list of the places that DIS posters rent from:

Here's some Pixie Dust for a great trip. Sounds like you all need one after your recent loss.
