New DVC member! I am completely aware the first two weeks in dec are the most busy in the year. I am just wondering from those of you who have been at this for awhile, which resorts will typically have availability for a 2bedroom these busy weeks. I plan to book home at 11 months at OKW ... but do any other resorts USUALLY have availability at exactly 7 months?? Or is it home or nothing those weeks lol?
We are planning a two week trip and want to stay home at OKW for a full week then switch the next of possible just to switch things up.

I assume you mean at WDW (nearby VB is usually open). SSR will have availability; potentially also OKW and AKV savanna or standard view although even those have a real risk of having some of the days during at least the first week of Dec filled before 7 months out. Also some chance for VGF dedicated 2BR. Chances increase for some others such as BWV pool/garden view or BLT lake view if looking for only two or at most three consecutive nights, particularly during the second week. And some have reported success using the wait list.

Other than items that are not routinely available anyway, one should be able to get anything they could get other times in almost all circumstances. It's true the things that drusba listed will be the ones with routine availability to reserve at 7 months but my point is that you can get most anything you can get routinely at other time. It just might take a little more effort, planning and use of the wait list though.

Thanks for the response. We were mostly looking for AKV 2 bedroom for 5 nights just to get a different resort feel after being at OKW for a week...we dont really care about the view. I only asked this question because I have been watching availability and notice certain room types are the 'last' to go (as you said, BLT lakeview, BWV garden/pool view, etc) and were wondering if this was the case the second week of December as well. With all the talk about how busy this time is for DVC, I just dont know what to expect with it being the single busiest time. Thanks again!

Dean, this is exactly what I was asking. Thank you! I see rooms that are rarely available at 7 months, or gone exactly at 7 months. Just wondering if this was the case in December as well or if every room will be gone except SSR. I guess I will see for myself!!

My ultimate point is that anything you can hope to get routinely at other times is possible for December as well. It might be more difficult and require more work and planning though and requires good wait list management. It also helps if you have enough points to hold one thing and look for something else at the same time. Now anything that's difficult to get other times is likely to be nearly impossible to get for this time for WDW. Just think of it as a shift in availability.

Also, if you want to have a chance for a week elsewhere, it is important that you set up your 11 month booking at OKW as two separate reservations, one for the week you will actually stay at OKW and a separate one for the second week and do not link those reservations before attempting to make the change at 7 months out. That way you will be able to make the change online at 8 a.m. 7 months out if anything is open rather than having to wait until 9 a.m. to call MS -- to make a change online you can only cancel one complete, unlinked reservation before making the other if you want to use the points from the first reservsation; if you were to book a 2 week reservation at OKW, you would need to call MS at 9 a.m.to drop the first week before changing to another resort and during that one hour delay what you want could easily disappear.
