Resorts in Las Vegas

Is there a convenience store or supermarket close by?
.Also, I understand their is an indoor mall with a canal system and you can take a boat ride?

I'm not aware of any convenience store nearby but Flamigo does have a small gift shop with some snack foods. Nothing you could really cook for meals but just a selection of snacks.

The Venetian has the canal system you are thinking of. Last time I did the boal ride I think it was $12.50 each or $25 for the gondola. I think you can only fit about 4 people at a time. It was fun but a short ride - maybe 10 minutes tops including the photo and getting into and out of the boat.

It's a little far off from the main part of the strip, but I LOVE the Golden Nugget! Their pool is outstanding. And I have heard you can get dirt cheap on priceline. It would be under the Las Vegas Strip-North. 4 stars I believe?

We love staying at the Golden Nugget. Got great rooms for $39 a piece last summer. The pool is awesome and being downtown is a fun experience both night and day!:thumbsup2

We rode a couple years ago and the price was $15 per person. If you are a party of 2, they will charge you $60 for a private boat. We chose to ride with others:laughing:. It's fun to do once. I wouldn't do it again unless I was with someone who really wanted to ride it.

I like a nice hotel and have even been known to pop for an expensive suite from time to time. I've stayed in "regular" rooms at the following for between $139 and $400 per night.

FAVORTE - by far - don't stay anywhere else now - the Wynn. Beautiful - comfortable rooms - lap of luxary - doesn't look like a regular casino - but a high end hotel with gaming. I still prefer the regular Wynn but Wynn Encore is beautiful and I wouldn stay there in a heartbeat.

Next Fav - Belligio - also has a more upscale - less Reno Casino feel

Next Fav - Paris

Next Fav - Mandalay Bay

Last Choice - Venetian - Just too darn big

We loved Treasure Island, the comfiest beds ever! But it is at one end of the strip, so lots of walking
Eh, more specifically it's at the upper end of the center Strip. From Mandalay Bay at the south to Stratosphere at the north, the area most commonly considered "The Strip" is three miles.

If you have time, you can get a nice package deal to do the gondola ride, see Madame Tussauds wax museum, and get lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants inside Venetian. You can find the package deals at MT's ticket counter.

Thanks, Judy...but I will say I have been over there and that forum is just way too quiet. The CB threads get allot more viewings. JMHO! :goodvibes
Ah, but if more DISers would consider the location of the city, and that there are several categories (and many forums) here on the DIS Boards, maybe the Las Vegas board WOULD be busier!!! Slightly off-topic, but I've noticed the same thing with the Cooking forum - despite the Moderators moving threads to the appropriate board, people continue to post recipe/food idea requests on the Budget Board and sometimes on this forum as well...

Okay, where've I stayed...? In order of preference:
Orleans
Main Street Station
Bally's
Rio
Flamingo
Gold Coast
Riviera
Sunrise (now Arizona Charlie's Boulder)
Luxor

I've only ever stayed at the Monte Carlo, and loved it. We booked a package with air, room and airport transfers for a great price. When we got there, I told them it was our anniversary, and asked how much it would be to upgrade. We upgrades to a Spa Suite for $100 more for all 3 nights. It was WONDERFUL!!! Comfy King size bed, huge jaccuzzi overlooking the mountains and a large seating area. THe bathroom was HUGE too. We loved the location, right by the monorail, and great dining choices too...not as many upscale restaurants, but they were easy to get to...we liked the little food court right in Monte Carlo...Nathan's Haagen Daaz, chinese place, etc. My DH has stayed at Paris, Venetian and Luxor for business, and while they were nice hotels, he liked the Monte Carlo for the variety of dining choices and location. Oh, and I loved the pool there. I'm not a gambler, so the pool is important to me. They have since had a lot of construction in the area though, so I'm not sure if you'd still have that nice view that we had.
