DH and I are heading down beginning is September. We know the heat/humidity will squash our appetites, so we're skipping free dining this year. Our thought is to hop to different resorts mid-day for lunch and check out the resorts. Anyone ever done this? Suggestions for restaurants?

Mara at AKL on an AK day. Capt. Cook's at Poly on an MK day. Boardwalk Bakery on an EP or DHS day. Or try Fresh at the Swan. It's not quick serve but they have great make-your-own salads.

I have never done this, we usually resort hop for dinner, but it certainly sounds like a great idea to get out of the heat/crowds after noon.

Port Orleans Riverside has our favorite food court. On a MK day, you could easily boat over to Wilderness Lodge and/or Fort Wilderness. WL QS is kind of small, but good the one time we ate there, or do sit-down lunch at Whispering Canyon. FW has Trails End restaurant, can't speak for the QS options.

I'll second both the Mara at AKL (African Stew) or the Mill at POR (the pasta station is good and big enough to share). If you want a TS lunch, you can do Sanaa at Kidani and request a table by the windows if it's not too crowded.

We tried POR Quick Service in November and it had a lot of great options and was such a pretty spot to eat if you could get a window table.

One of our favourites is at Art of Animation and the design your own pasta. We won't get to our resort until probably 9pm our first night in September and my 6yo DD has already requested that we go there for our traditional first meal of pasta!!

Thanks all for the suggestions! The nice thing about this is we're staying at contemporary. So after lunch at a resort, hop the transportation back to MK and walk over to resort for a rest or swim (no transfer at a park ). Looking forward to exploring different resorts

Yep! I love Christmas vignettes and décor, so last time I made sure to check a few out. Though we were staying in POFQ , we hopped around to the Poly, the Contemporary, and Riverside. Only place I missed that was on my list was GF but we just didn't feel like it :)

We love taking the boat to the Poly and eating at Captain Cook's. They have a nice outdoor seating area which is really lovely, as the grounds at the Poly are so beautiful. Not sure if the construction would make that any less pleasant right now, but that is usually one of our favorites!
