Resorts for a family of 5

We've stayed at the Dolphin many times and it has worked out great. You still get amazing transportation, EMH, and 60 day FP+ reservations. We're a family of 5.

Just to clarify Disney's Magical Express is not part to the awesome transportation at the Dolphin.:(

Ah, we never used ME, just the shuttles to the parks- boats and buses.

We are visiting in September and booked a DVC rental at the Poly. The studio sleeps 5 with a queen size bed, a foldout full bed and a trundle bed. Also has 2 showers/sinks and a microwave/toaster/coffee maker..when traveling we will have 2 adults, kids 10, 8 and 4. We had to book the rental 7 months out and there is no cancellation and no switching dates after it is booked. At just $229/nt it is worth it to me to stay at a deluxe for the first time. And since we will spend a great deal of time at MK, love the location on the monorail. My husband loathes the buses..also keep in mind no free dining plans with a DVC point rental either, but the room discount is so great, we don't mind paying OOP for meals while we are there. You can still link your passes to your reservation, get ADRs at 180 days, FASTPASS at 60 days and even the Magical Express. Good luck with whatever you choose!

We stayed in a suite @ ASMu and really liked it. I have also, just for fun, compared prices between that & renting points for a 1 br @ OKW & found the points rental considerably less expensive. I have no idea how adding the DDP or other pieces of a package would even things out, but I'll definitely be checking it out further before we go again!

We stayed at POR as a family of 5 when my niece came with us last trip; DH, myself, DN (who was 17), DS (7) and DS (11). We didn't feel cramped at all. Now granted we are not the type of family that just lounges around in the room though. We are there to shower and sleep. But for us it worked out perfect and I think with even smaller kids it would be even easier.

We are a family of 5 and LOVE CBR and the AOA suites. We have done 2 value rooms (POP) before but it's not possible for them to guarantee a connecting room (we've always gotten one) so it's not something we like to chance! Our fave is the Contemporary hands down and AKL comes in a close second but the CBR rooms are nice as well and where we are staying before our cruise in October!

Yes, I second the CBR rooms - they sleep five now, and are much bigger than POR.

Staying off site gives you more space for your $£. In 2014 we stayed at Caribe Royale hotel. Very close to Disney. Rooms are all suites. They also have 2 bedroom condos. We stayed in a suite with 2 Queen beds in one room and a sofa bed in a separate room. Lots of space. We really loved the breakfast buffet. It has a sister hotel next door Buena Vista Suites which is cheaper $£s per night. The Caribe Royale has a lovely pool with a slide. If you want loads of space then a villa is a good option.

How's the park transportation?

Google DVC Rental, if you want to check out that option. David's is a popular option for rentals. Just remember to be sure the room accommodates 5. Some sleep 5 and others sleep 4 but allow a 5th if you bring your own air mattress. Studios have a microwave, coffee maker, mini-fridge, etc. One bedrooms have a full kitchen. Some 1 bedrooms have a second bathroom (such as Bay Lake Tower). Rentals may not be as affordable as other value options, but may be something to check out. (I am a DVC owner so I don't have experience renting.)

We are a family of 5 and have rented points several times and have stayed in the studios at VWL, VGF, and Poly. Even though the Poly and VGF have the split bathroom, style, we felt the VWL had the most room as there was closet space and a storage dresser for items. We prefer the studio set up as you can fold the bed in the morning and have more room to roam during the day. We are going to try a AKL 1 bedroom this time.
