Resorts at Christmas

Anyone know about WHEN the decorations go up???

We've been multiple time to Wilderness Lodge second week in November and the "Magic" happened overnight during our stays.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is definitely up there with GF due to the smells of Boma adding to the cozy ambience.

We are starting to "plan" a trip during the Christmas season either next year or the year after!! Any opinions on what the best resorts to stay at are during that time? Decorations and ambiance wise?? Thanks in advance!

I definitely think this is a good idea. If you have an off day from the parks, go explore some of the other resorts. My wife and I are staying at Saratoga Springs in November, and are making dining reservations at multiple resorts and plan on exploring after our meals. I haven't stayed at the majority of resorts so looking forward to it!

Being at WDW at Christmas is like being a kid again in a candy shop. Do you pick your very favorite or go with a variety?

The Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian, Beach Club and Yacht Club have the best Christmas decorations. We have stayed at those resorts and found that we prefer to be at the BC or YC because the best park for Christmas activities is Epcot. It is my favorite time to go to Epcot.

After reading all the great comments and all the advice, I think I am going to plan a "down" day to resort hop and see the other resorts!!! Yay!!

We always plan a down day mid way through the vacation. It's relaxing after hustling in the parks for a few days.

If you are planning a vacation that includes Christmas Day I would consider crowds can get a little thick. On Christmas Day a tide of people visual made Main Street a one way street to the castle. Moving to a another park or resort to considerable longer periods of time. So, my recommendation is select a resort that aligns to your budget and room preferences. We picked BC for its location and MVMCP completed the day prior to our arrival, so a MK resort wasn't as important. Ease to get to our dining locations at Epcot was more important as well as attending the Epcot WS. As far as what Deluxe resorts are most popular, Disney travel agents almost told me it is PR and WL. If you consider one of these two, book early if you have a specific room category or desire a discount. We have stayed also at both of these and also AKL, BC/YC and GF. Personally, they all worked out well with our schedule. I would say the week of Christmas is different with crowds. Make alternative plans or plans to break away from the crowds, take time back at your resort or non park destination. On Christmas Day I made ADR at Afternoon Tea at GF as we made it to MK early that day. We got lots of ride completed and when late morning arrived it was time to head to GF. It took a lot of time to get down Main Street (like swimming up stream against the current) along with transportation to the resort. Took about twice as long to get around.

My favorite is Wilderness Lodge followed closely by Animal Kingdom Lodge and Grand Floridian.

My favorite resort in WDW is by far and away the best resort for Christmas. What screams Christmas at you more than a fireplace going, tall and impressive Christmas tree in the center, surrounded by evergreens on the property, and that rustic yet luxurious Northwest lodge look that is the Wilderness Lodge. For me, by far the #1 resort in WDW during Christmas. Grand Floridian and Animal Kingdom Lodge are impressive as well.
