Does anyone know if there are new resorts planned after SSR or do you think that will be the last one built?

Thanks - Karolyn

Right now there are just rumors floating around-the rumor is a new one at the Contemporary Resort. Nothing has been officially confirmed.

Right now the rumors I have heard have at least 2 future dvc resorts in the "being thought about process."

Obviously the most widespread, talked about rumor is that where part of the Contemporary Resort is converted into dvc units. most likely one of the wings

of course no one knows for sure yet, but I myself would bet quite a few dollars on the idea SSR will certainly not be the last dvc resort.

I find myself in total agreement with sjdisneywedding on this one; DVC is truely a Johnnie Fedora-like cash cow (Moo).

The Contemporary.Resort.North.Wing rumor has been around for a long time. Also, a lot of time and effort went into the planning of the Eagle Pines DVC Resort, which was put on hold to build SSR. A golf-centric DVC resort certainly seems to make sense.

Finallly - and I haven't seen it mentioned in a while - is the VMO: Villas at Mars Outpost. Certain folks of the tinfoil hat inclination suggested that Mission:Space was really a way for Disney to prepare guests for a "real" trip to Mars - where, of course, a DVC Resort will be available....

IMHO - YMMV

Heard the Contemporary Rumor while at SSR, this was from a husband of a Cast Member? Who knows!

Just to keep things in perspective for champagne27, I've been hearing the Contemporary rumors for 1 1/2 - 2 years now. And, another long-time member recently said those rumors have been circulating all the way back to the mid-90s.

Dang Dr T, I was hoping to break that news! I think the Mars Outpost DVC is the most likely after SSR; hey, it couldn't be farther than the far parking at MK, could it?

Folks, let me be the first to complain about this resort. I've seen the plans and have the following concerns:
1. Anti-gravity devices are too noisy! Turns on when you go into the bathroom (motion sensor)
2. Furniture is sub-par...in particular the pullout sofa. Seems to be using substandard mars cushions
3. Room capacity will not be strictly enforced. 1 bedroom and studios only allow 4 people plus an alien (only if it is smaller than 12 inches)
4. Room requests will be denied. Views are considered equal from all rooms. Plus, you can't smoke (sorry, considered a hazard even in space).
5.Transportation may be a problem. They promise shuttle service to the parks every 30 minutes, but are concerned about the travel time to Orlando
6. On-site restaurant may also be a problem. Concerned about selections. Moon burgers! Come on! This is Mars!
7. Outside halls! Yes, they are painted, but folks, with zero gravity, this could prove to be tricky! At least mosquitos won't be an issue

Oh, I forgot, the good news!! New incentives!!
$100/ point...but if you give up your first pluto years points, they will discount $10. Add on the incentive of not breathing, that is an additional $5!

Now that's the DIS DVC Forum spirit I've come to know, love, and sometimes be very afraid of! :rotfl2:

I'll give "nuts" a 9.5 for originality and theming of the answer. :teacher:

Last month my guide told me there were 4 more resorts in the planning phase, 2 of which already had funding committed. So my thought is 2 resorts are more conceptual at this point and the 2 with funding means at least some sort of design is being physically put together. He said the guides were not being told where the new resorts were going but that they had some ideas themselves. The next resort would begin construction after SSR was completed.

He indicated the idea was to keep adding resorts, this group of 4 and SSR with contracts ending in 2054. Then after that another group ending another 12 years out, and so on and so on...

My Guide claims they have a wormhole easement, but as long as Eisner is around we all know THAT will never happen.

Yes, but remember, monorail through a worm hole is about a $1B/mile. But one can hope.

Although she would not confirm or deny, my agent gave me a large grin when I mentioned that a DVC Resort at AK would really be great. What that may mean I dont know.

I also could see the CR garden wing happening. I think that Disney found out that they really did not need one wing to make money at the resort. Remember, while SOG was being renovated and Disney leased the entire north wing to dod. I bet this move actually boosted the ocup. rate for the resort...which would lead to more profits in resort services such as food service.

Only the Mouse knows the answer but rest assured that SSR will not be the last DVC resort built. :earsboy:
