Resort view room at DLH?

I booked a room at the DLH online, using the GETAWAY discount, but there were not any standard rooms available for our dates. I was able to get an upper level resort view room for about $150 less for our 4 night stay, than our original reservation for a standard room with AAA.

My question: what exactly does "resort view" mean? I can't find a description online. Is it a view of one of the theme parks, or could it be a view of any part of DLR, including the other hotels? I am not sure if I should keep calling back to see if a standard room becomes available at the GETAWAY rate, or if I should be thankful that I got a good rate on a room with a great view.

I read about the GETAWAY rate here on the boards. It is a discount rate (Ithink 30%). I called at first to see if I could apply it to my existing reservation, but they didn't have any rooms available for my dates. Then I tried booking a new reservation online, and it automatically was applied.

Usually the classification is broken down into resort/pool view. This simply means that instead of looking at the parking lot, you will be looking either at the Disneyland Resort (sort of overlooking downtown disney, but you can easily see the higher points of the park) or you will be overlooking the Peter Pan pool. Either view is great, and we typically spring for it, too. For us it is worth it--because if we are paying extra to stay in the DLH, then we might as well pay a bit more to get the full experience by having a nice view as well. We don't take many vacations each year, so when we do go, we would rather make the most of it, you know?

We were at DLH last summer and had a "resort view" on the top floor of the tower that overlooks Downtown Disney. It was a nice view, but I don't know if I'd pay extra for it. It's mainly a view of Downtown Disney. As for the view of the parks, I was surprised at how many trees there are in Disneyland. All you could really see of DL was trees, and the top of a few attractions (Matterhorn, Space Mt, Splash Mt). You could see more of California Adventure, but even much of that was blocked by the Grand Californian Hotel. The best part was on our last night the park closed at 9PM because of grad night, so we left the park at 8:30 to watch the 8:45 fireworks from our room. But if there wasn't a grad night we still would have been in the park.

All-in-all, it was a nice view but unless you're spending a lot of time in the room it's not work the extra money to me. And if you're on a lower floor, I'm not even sure how much of the parks you'll be able to see over the Downtown Disney buildings.

Thanks for the info. We will probably stick with the resort view room. We will only be there a short time, and I think I will need to be as immersed in the Disney experience as I can!

We had the "Pool View" a few years back and thought it was cool, but I really like that Downtown Disney view in those pictures!!! (Im a people watcher! )

We stayed in the Dream tower 2 weeks ago, our view was just a little to the right of the posted pictures above. We did get a refurbished room and it was very nice. I loved the view, with our little kids we ended up pulling up chairs to the window and watching the fireworks (with the music on the TV) right in our room. I'd definitely go for the resort view again.

Thanks for posting those pictures, dangermouse! It really helps to tell what you will be getting with your resort view.

I really think it is worth it to pay a bit extra for a good view when staying at the DLH. You are already paying quite a bit more to stay there (compared to good neighbor hotels), so I figure you might as well spring for the good view too.

We go next week, and hopefully we will get a renovated room!

Not sure if others are sensitive to noise, but sometimes the resort view rooms can be noisy with DTD piping music late into the night (in summer). We like staying on the pool side as it is quieter.

The refurbishment to the windows is supposed to take care of the noise.
