While we're at WDW this May, DW & I are planning a day to go around a visit different resorts, eat at couple but generally look around to see where we might like to stay in the future. We will be staying at POR during this time, does anyone have any good tips for what to see or do at each resort, which one's eat b'fast or lunch at, and a good tour plan using Disney transportation. We thought of going to WL, taking a boat to MK, catching the resort monorail, then.....????

That's a fun idea. We like to do this at Christmas too. Are you planning on using WDW transportation for everything? If so, you might want to make a latish breakfast ps. You would have to go to one of the parks, via the bus, and then transfer to whatever resort you wanted. I would say, get to MK, then ride the monorail around the loop, stopping and eating wherever you want. The Polynesian has some good breakfast stops..Kona Cafe is yummy and 'Ohana has a character breakfast. Just get out and amble around each resort. Take your time soaking up the different atmosphere's. You can catch a boat from either MK or Contemporary over to WL. Then, you could take a bus to MGM. Then either follow the pathway to Boardwalk, BC/YC, Swan, Dolphin or take the 'Friendship' boats. Then, grab a bus at one of those resorts to AK. Switch buses there and you could check out the AllStar resorts, CBR or CS. You could pick and choose which group interests you most. I would do the MK (monorail) resorts and the Epcot ones. Have fun.

Sounds like fun.

For breakfast you might want to try a restaurant in the MK area. Concourse St & Konas are very good and you can check out four or five resorts in the area. Note they are all deluxe and FW. Boats at CR and MK connect to WL & FW. You might want to inquire at the FD about seeing a room as you are planning your next visit. IF they are not busy they are usually glad to do so.

Lunch: B&C, Yachtclub Galley, Big River, Konas, GF Cafe
The other area is the EC resorts two Disney YC/BC and BW as well as Swan and Dolphin. Can easily walk or take a boat.

'Ohana doesn't have character breakfast any longer. Check the Disneyworld website.

AKL and WL offer tours of the resorts, ask at the main registration desk for times.

Yes we plan on using WDW transportation for everything. I had heard WL had a good breakfast place (I think), but I also heard the Kona Cafe' was good for breakfast. We want to eventually make it throughyt the day to Beaches and Cream for a look at "The Kitchen Sink". I don't know if we'll be brave enough to try it though. If not "No Way Jose" will probably do for an afternoon snack.

CP17,
Some of the resorts offer guided tours. Wildreness lodge has one in th morning, (I think around 9:30 am). Maybe you could make a P.S at WL for breakfast and then join the tour. From there, you can finish up with the MK resorts.

I would call the resorts first and see which ones offer tours and at what times. You will find that only the Deluxe resorts will offer the tours. You will be on your own for the other resorts.

The resorts that do not offer any kind of guided tour, may be able to tell you the best time to come look around, Maybe at a time when it is less crowded, or at a time when there will be a special event going on. I would call and ask a CM. Good Luck!

CP 17,
I did a resort tour when I stayed at POR using only Disney transportation and this is how I did it:

(Note Disney does not provide resort to resort transportation, so you have to use a theme park or Downtown Disney as a hub)

From POR:
took bus to Animal Kingdom
got on Animal Kingdom Lodge bus

From AKL:
Took bus back to Animal Kingdom
took bus to Coronado Springs

From CS:
took bus to MGM
took boat to Swan/Dolphin

From S/D
walked along path to Epcot stoping at each resort along the way. I also had lunch at Beaches and Cream, Yum!

I stoped in Epcot for a bit to ride Mission: Space and Test Track

From Epcot
took bus to Wilderness Lodge

From WL
took boat to Contemporary

From CR
took monorail to the Polynesian and Grand Floridian

I ended my day at the Magic Kingdom, where I had tickets for E-night.

This tour took me most of the day, but I really enjoyed it. It gave me a nice taste of each resort. I was very inpressed with Disney transportation. I think my longest wait was just over 5 min. Have fun!

Oops. Sorry. They did in August when we were there.

G4T, I was surpeised they discontinued it, it was always hard to get into. With so many families with kids at the poly, I wonder why?

We take a day to tour the resorts on every trip. We make PS for breakfast, lunch and dinner as we wind our way around. We also include a trip to Fort Wilderness on this day too. You can walk to WL from there, or take the boat. You will likely spend more time at AKL than any other because of the animals. If you end the day at the Contemporary, you can see the fireworks from the top floor observation deck! You'll have a grand day of touring no matter how you plan it.

Thanks for the great tips. Here's a couple of questions. I haven't used the water taxi between MGM and Epcot before, I guess it stops at each resort on the way? Also once you get to Epcot is there a way around to the monorail without going throuh the park. I don't have an AP, so I don't want to use a day of my Park Hopper to get through. My only option may be to use a reosrt bus to or from Epcot depending on which direction I'm going (monorail to water taxi or vica versa).

The only monorail access at Epcot is at the entrance to Future World. If you are coming in from the International Gateway (where the friendship boats dock) you would have to walk through World Showcase and then through Future World to get to the monorail. You would be better off grabbing a bus at one of the resorts.

The boat from MGM makes a stop at Swan/Dolphin, Y&B (one stop for both), Boardwalk and Epcot. I'm not sure of the current order of stops. The boat does take quite awhile to get around from resort to resort. You might consider walking between at least some of them.

You will need a park pass to enter Epcot and you do have to walk through the park to get to the monorail station. You can get to the S&D/BW/Y&B resort area by taking a bus from AK or DD to any of these resorts or, as suggested above, taking a bus to MGM and then boarding the boat there or walking over to the area on a path that runs along the water. To get back to the MK, you can go to the bus stop in the front of any of these resorts and hop their MK bus.

A nice thing to do to see the GF is to have the afternoon tea or an evening cocktail in the lobby.

How about watching the Electric Water Pageant form one of the resorts, is it worth seeing?

Just wanted to update my reply here. Ohana does in fact still have the character breakfast. Another option if at the Polynesian.

Where did you find the information. I just did a search on the WDW and the Poly website, no character dining is listed at 'Ohana. I can't imajine that it is really gone. I also noticed that the Crysytal Palace no longer lists Character Breakfast. I hope that it is an error on the web site.

I just made a PS for Ohana's breakfast yesterday for May.

Character meals are listed under "character meals" on the WDW website. They are not listed under restaurants for breakfast or dinner.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!! I looked under character dining at the Poly, and found nothing.

Woo Hoo, next trip I will be there. I love Kona, but need to do a new character breakfast.

Thanks again, this is so great.
