So, here's the plan...

We are driving up to WDW on a Thursday next month. My wife thinks we are staying at Dixie Landings (a resort she loves, but has been to many, many times.) We have dinner reservations for that night at 1900 Park Fair. I'll tell her that we don't have enough time to swing by Dixie Landings for check-in.

I'll tell the MK toll attendant that we are having dinner at 1900, he/she will wave us in. I'll tell the gate at GF the same. He/she will direct me to valet. I'll stop at the front, kindly brush off the valet for the moment and send my wife and daughter in to check out the gift shop while I park.

When they are safely in and out of the way, I'll get a
someone to grab the bags and then have a valet park the car. She'll be in the gift shop while I am checking in. I'll go find her and then she will see our stuff on the luggage cart ready to go out to our room. She will be shocked - she's never stayed at GF.

If it works, it will be great.

Thats a great suprise! Hopefully it will all work well and she will be so suprised!

I did a similar thing this past feb. I tolf my girlfriend we were staying at ASMo, and when the towncar pulls up to POR, she had this "what a second" kind of look on her face.
Great plan, although I do have one alternative for you. I'm just afraid that getting your wife to the gift shop will be a little tough. You can always park the car as normal, go to dinner, and walk to your car after you eat. Go to get in the car, and say, "You know what, I'm a little tired from all this driving. Why don't we just sleep here (the GF)."
Just another option.

Sending a wagon full of PD to make the dream come true.

Ham53, not a bad idea - but we'll arrive at GF around 6:00p, dinner isn't until 7:30. She'll be a little suspicious about the timing - we are "later" eaters - anyway.

Getting her to the gift shop is a piece of cake. It is standard operating procedure when we are having dinner at another resort. I stop at the front, they get out and head to the gift shop, I park the car and come and get them.

I'll think harder about your idea, though. I might be able to work with it.

What a great hubby you are! And what a fun surprise... be sure to let us know her reaction!

That is a terrific surprise! Can't wait to hear about her reaction! Hoping you have a wonderful trip!!!

What a great surprise!
You may want to rethink the fine details though.
What if the valet isn't so easy to brush off? I've been told "you can't stay here; either we park it or you park it".
I'd settle for telling them "We're staying here!" as the bellhop unloads the trunk.

What a wonderful and magical surprise ! Good Luck with your plan! She will be thrilled, as will your DD!

My DH just surprised me with a graduation gift for completing my Master's degree... A trip to the Poly! Definitely the best suprise I have ever received!

Have a great time planning your surprise! :D

What a wonderful husband you are!!!!!! I hope all goes well with your plan and even if it doesn't go exactly as planned once you arrive at the GF, I'm sure she'll still be totally surprised and happy whenever she finds out she is staying at the GF!!!!!! :)

Way cool! You are an awesome DH!!!

Might I suggest that you call ahead to the Grand Floridian and speak with bell services.

Let them know about what time to expect you, the make model and maybe liscence plate number of your car. Also let them know kinow your specific plans. I would suspect that Bell Services would more than happy to help you carry out your plan. A nice tip wouldn't hurt either.

Good luck!

Your plan sounds GREAT to me. To bad you couldn't go one step futher and have the bellman take luggage to the room then meet your family. After dinner you could say "Let's just look around and do a little snooping, I heard on the DIS there is a great view down this way." Then go to your room and open the door...she would pass out.

Have a GREAT TRIP :earsboy: &

You could write up a short note and hide it in your pocket. This note would state:

“My luggage is in the trunk. Once my wife & daughter are out of sight, please remove the luggage from the trunk and hold it under my name – Mr. Gcurling. Our GF stay is a complete surprise to both of them, and while they are browsing in the gift shop, I will be checking in at the Front Desk. This should happen within the next fifteen minutes. Once I’ve checked in, I will have the Front Desk contact Bell Services for my luggage retrieval. Please load it on one of the GF golf carts and meet me outside the resort’s side entrance, where you will find myself plus my wife & daughter. You will be able to recognize my wife & daughter by the deer-in-the-headlight looks upon their faces. I’m not sure what lodge building we’re staying in as of yet, but I know that it is customary for Bell Services to drive resort guests and their luggage to their lodge building. By the way, please make it a fun ride for a couple of GF Resort newbie’s. The more resort trivia you can heap on them, the better. I want our first GF stay to be a memorable one. Sincerely, Mr. Gcurling.”

Or something along those lines. Once your wife and daughter are out of the car, you could place this note on the driver’s seat and discretely mention it to the valet as you hand him/her your car keys (or you could hand the note directly to the valet and ask him/her to read it ASAP). As soon as you’ve officially checked into the resort, you need to high-tail it to the gift shop in order to retrieve your wife & daughter. Think of some excuse to get them to the resort’s side entrance – “Hey, I just saw Michael Eisner outside the resort posing for some publicity shots with Mickey & Minnie – you gotta see this! Come QUICKLY!” And then drag them outside. Your GF golf cart should be awaiting your family.

What a nice surprise! She's going to flip!:bounce:
