Hi all,
Newbie here to the forums!

We have two adults, an 8 and a 5 heading down in August. We have a good price at POFQ, but we were given the option to switch to SSR for only $40 extra per night. Or I can get into BLT for $100 more. Anyone have any suggestions if it's worthwhile to upgrade? I'm struggling to justify the extra cash. Being on the monorail would be nice, but is it $100 nice?

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

I've never stayed at SSR or BLT, but I have stayed at CR. With kids your age, the huge advantage of BLT is being able to walk to the MK. The pool at the CR is much nicer than the pool at POFQ, too. In your position, I'd probably stay at BLT.

$100/night more for BLT seems pretty reasonable! You'll be within walking distance to MK and have monorail to Epcot. Plus, I think the pool at BLT is cooler. It would be worth $100/more per night for me.

the pool at POFQ was designed for you kids.

so think they would be happy. now do love the monorail - but right now (at least in Dec) Disney was still having trouble with it.

would stay at POFQ and save the money.

the problems with BLT or any of the MK resorts on the monorail - is that they all share a bus. to get to places not on the monorail - DD, studios and AK - plus the water parks. now it starts at BLT/CR (so you do get a seat), then it goes the Poly and then GF before it leaves to the parks. most of the places that share a bus are next to get other - like the POR and POFQ. but CR is not even close driving to GF - so this takes alot longer.

Now most of the resorts either have multiple stops or share - the only ones who don't are Pop century and AoA - but really think it is just a matter of time before they do.

really use to get tire of the Epcot resort (they all share a bus - except in very busy times) to MK, AK, DD and water parks.

but it takes alot less time to get from S&D to BW - when they all share - than to get from CR to GF.

Definitely go BLT. With your kids, you'll probably spend the most time at the MK anyway, so you may as well make it convenient and walk there..

Have stayed at all. BLT will be a tight fit for 4. Once you open the sleeper sofa you give up all floor space. This will be true at SSR, also, to a lesser extent. It won't be nearly as tight as BLT. However you do pick up a balcony at these locations plus a kitchenette with microwave. You will have less clothing storage space.

Best pools will be at SSR.

Best location will be BLT.

WOW! I'm jealous! I would definately jump on that offer for BLT. Just being on the monorail is worth it.

It is well worth the extra $100 per night to stay at BLT. You have the convenience of walking to MK or Monorail to Epcot. It also opens up lots of restaurant choices because of the easy access to Poly & GF. Even Wilderness Lodge is only a few minute boat ride away

I'm the dissenter here. Stay at POFQ. Withe the extra $100 a night rent a car. I truely love PO (and this from a confirmed deluxe snob) and having rented a car to appease my DH 2 trips ago I would never go w/out. You have so much more convience. I should add that my kids (13, 7, 2) like all the parks and we are big hoppers so that may play a part in our plans.

Heather.

location of BLT is nice, but POFQ is a much nicer resort IMHO,and I don't like feeling tied to the monorail anymore, it breaks down too often for my comfort:sad1: and it has shorter hours now....POFQ on the other hand is practically perfect! save the money and have rental car if you decide you need it...:thumbsup2

It depends on what you are switching to at SSR or BLT. If a studio, stay with POFQ. If a one bedroom, you'll get a king bed and a queen sleeper sofa. Plus BLT one bedroom also has a twin sized sleeper chair and an extra bathroom at the entrance to the villa.

But don't take a switch to a BLT studio. They are the smallest studio of all the DVC studios (except for AKV Value studio) and the layout has most of the space in the bathroom, kitchenette and hallway.

My kids need a "real" bed, not a sleeper sofa in order to get a good nights sleep. BLT and SSR would be out for us (unless we rented a two bed room unit, but that is out of our budget)

My sister stayed at POFQ and loved it. She said the resort was nice and small, so walking to the pool area, lobby and bus stop was easy from their room. She loved the boat to DTD and said the bus service was good. POFQ rooms have two queen beds, a must for us.

The August heat is brutal, so you will want to take a break everyday to swim/nap or chill out. POFQ has a great pool for the age of your kids.

SSR has three great themed pools and two unthemed pools. BLT has one themed pool and access to the two pools at the Contemporary.

We took DS when he was 7, he loved the PO for the pool, nice size and kid friendly, and the playground. For the money I would stay there they have a good bus system and the boat to Downtown is a nice touch in August. They have a good counter service area as well as a good restaurant. Enjoy

Thanks everyone for the input. It was very helpful. I'm leaning towards POFQ. I think having the kids share a real bed makes more sense than making the sleep on a pull-out for a week.

Also, how much time will we really spend in the hotel? We're planning one day away from the parks, and I'm sure POFQ will be great.

The only thing I don't like is being tied to busses, but we'll figure it out.

We always rent a car. Most of the time we find the best prices with Priceline name your own. We still usually take a bus to MK. Our last rental was $14 a day for a full size Aug 2012. Taxes and fees add up quick, but still better then what we could get anywhere else.

We've stayed at POFQ several times and love it. Kids loved the pool. If you were considering spending the extra money anyway, why not rent a car? We've rented a few times from Budget- good service, located right in the Orlando airport, and we've usually been able to get discount codes to make them reasonably priced. You'll park free at the parks since you're staying on site, and it gives you a lot of flexibility.
