Hi,
Im a fairly new DVC member and will be using points for the first time at a disney resort. To Anyone who has done this also, what type of room did you end up getting? MS tells me i will only get a standard room but if i want garden, lagoon view ect i will have to pay difference from standard rack rate to the desired view. Has that been anyone else's experience? I had always heard a point is roughly worth 10.00 that being said one of the nights i booked is 55 points alone the others are 30 each! Five hundred fifty dollars a night should get a whole lot better than a standard room shouldnt it? I just assumed they would maybe take a little better care of members at the hotel am i wrong? I could pay cash and do much better? Obviously im confused and probably something im missing so any info, insight, opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I don't know who you spoke to at MS but I've never heard anything like that before! We get what they call Run of House which means the hotel's choice of available room (not including Concierge). Most DVC members are usually given a very nice room. I had a lagoon view (looking at MK) at the GF a few years back. The idea that you would pay anything is just wrong. In fact, it says that we cannot pay to upgrade to Concierge.

I can only tell my experience - I have stayed at the BC (got a lagoon view), the WL (got a courtyard view), YC (got a lagoon view), Cont (got a tower view of the MK), and the last trip was at the Polyn got a lagoon view. The polyn was the only time I was told that I had gotten a free upgrade. However I do generally travel in Sept and Dec, not peak times.

When my brother went in June to the Polyn on my points he got a pool view and was told he would have to pay an extra $45.00 a night for the lagoon view.

WHen I asked why (at the Poly) I was told if the resort has oversold the standard view, you have a chance to get the preferred view.

If you get there early you have a better chance of getting an upgrade.

Thanks for the info Pam and spiceycat! I feel a much better now. The cm Mira or myra i spoke to was very pleasant but also very adament about the room type being a standard room and any other upgrade would require additional pymt at checkin. As i found with CRO and now i guess with MS the info will vary depending on which cm you happen to get. Anyway ill keep my fingers crossed for something other than a parking lot view! ;) Thanks again!
