Does anyone know what would happen if we have a room reservation for one night but don't arrive until the next morning? Would our magic bands still work to get into the room and pool access?
Thanks

If you’re a no-show, they may cancel your entire reservation. As soon you know you won’t be arriving on the date your reservation starts, call them and let them know.
Thank you!

This actually happened to us a couple of years ago. There was a flight delay, and then another flight delay and we didn’t even land in Orlando until almost 3 AM. We were staying at YC, and let them know. And our room was ready and waiting for us upon arrival at about 4:30 AM.

3 AM, even 4:30 AM, is still the previous night's booking. Once you get past the next-day rollover - typically 6-7 AM - you're talking about a completely new day.

We had a delayed flight that caused a misconnection, then we were scheduled for a later evening flight that also was cancelled. Long tiring story short, We didn't find out until 10:55 pm that we would have to overnight and wait to arrive at MCO the next day. I immediately called WDW and explained that we would not arrive until the next day. We had two rooms and I told her as much, but after the call I realized that she hadn't stated that she had made the notation on both reservations. I called back right away, but they were now closed, so I couldn't confirm.

When we arrived the next morning, one room was cancelled. The other one was available later in the day, but I was charged for the night that I hadn't arrived. We had to fight to get the other (cancelled) reservation reinstated.

If you know that you will not arrive on the day your reservation begins, I would let them know ASAP. It could save your reservation and could make the difference of having to pay for an extra night.

Absolutely! This is excellent advice!

But while this is nice to hope for, IMO it's unrealistic. The hotel has reserved and held that room for the guest, even if the guest arrived a day late. They were ethically unable to rent it to somebody else. I feel the hotel is 100% entitled to the expected revenue.

Despite the name, online check-in isn’t the same as physically arriving at the resort and claiming the room. It won’t prevent the reservation from being cancelled as a no-show.

This past August we had a split stay of 2-nights at All Star Sports(room only)/ 5 nights Beach Club Villas. We found out two weeks before traveling that my husband needed to be at work the day we were scheduled to leave for Disney. I immediately called Disney and paid for the two nights in full so that my reservation would remain intact. We arrived the following day, but at 2:30 am, due to weather delays. I had received a room ready text the day before and we bypassed the front desk.

2:30am is still the same hotel “day” — hotels sell “nights” and at WDW the clock turns over at 6am. Anything before that hour is considered the prior day.

OP, if you are just concerned that it may be after midnight, that’s no problem. If it may be after 6am the next morning, you should let them know.

Enjoy your vavation

Disney holds all rooms till 11AM the next morning (c/o time) After that it's a no-show.

Even with online check in?

It depends upon how much advance notice you have to give. If it is prior top the 5 days cancellation, then the reservation may be modifiable and the nights costs saved.

We wanted to be sure we had a room on a day we arrived at about 8:30 AM. So I paid for the night before. I gave Disney a flight that arrived at 3:00 AM on the day we planned to come in. This became our official arrival time. There were no issues and we arrived at about 9:00 at the resort and promptly went to bed. The room was paid in full prior to arrival also.

Yes. As @Lynne M stated in an earlier post, despite the name Online Check In is not the same as physically arriving at the resort and claiming your room.

Disney’s online check-in is what other hotel chains call pre-check-in. It’s simply a mechanism to collect information from the guest so it doesn’t have to be done when the guest arrives.
