Resort Res Change- Can You Help Me?

Hoping someone can help me here! I made reservations this week for April 2013 for 8 nights, 9 days in the HOPES that there is another military discount. If there isn't, I will have to shorten the trip by a few days. As it stands, it is a room only reservation. If I call to have them take a few days off the reservation, will they need to cancel the old reservation and make a whole new one?

The reason I ask is because I was working on a trip for Sept and originally had it with the mil discount plus the dining package. I called back a month later and said I did NOT want the dining package anymore. The lady had to put me on hold for about 15 min because she said she had to cancel the old reservation and put in a new one and there were no more rooms available. Eventually, she (and a supervisor I assume) found a way around that and got me all squared away. But now I am nervous that the same thing could happen this time, but what if they can't find a way around it? With out the military discount I just cant afford to stay that long for this trip, so if they dont have a new discount, I HAVE to cancel some days.

I know when you do room only its booked completely different than a package, so with it staying room only just changing the number of days, can they just adjust the current res?

When you change from a package to a room only or a room only to a package, the original reservation must be cancelled and then re-booked.

When you make a change to a package or a room only reservation, they should be able to remove days without a problem.
