What are the chances of swimming in the Resort pools in 1st week of Dec?How about the waterparks? We'll have a 2 year old w/us & we don't want him turning blue.;)

We were there at the end of December a few years ago and it was very nice ( upper 70's ) and we were wearing shorts. The week before it had been quite a bit warmer, by the time we left it got pretty cold, and we had to wear sweatshirts and pants. Mainly at night, but it did get the to the upper 30's once. It is hit or miss. From what I have seen it appears to be fairly warm early in December.

It really just depends. We often go that first week of December, and I have learned to pack a little of everything. One year when we went, it was colder when we got off the plane on Orlando than it was when we got on in Philadelphia and was in the 30's and 40's all week. Another year it fluctuated day to day form the 40's to the 70's.

Yes, it can really depend. I've been there in late December and had it be in the mid-80s for highs and I've been there in early December and highs were in the 50s and nighttime temps were in the 30s.

My recommendation if you were considering the Waterpark Fun & More option for your tickets would be to skip it until you are there and see what the weather will be like. You can add that option on later.

We went in January, and some days were nice, but some days were cool. The water was heated so once you were in the pool it was nice, but the air was chilly sometimes. Didn't stop us becuase we're from WI, so we don't mind being a little cold.

As others have said, it just depends and can be hit or miss. We've been twice in December and the first year we swam the day we arrived, but after that the temps dropped and the pool was actually closed the remainder of the week due to the cold. We had to buy coats and gloves as we didn't pack for such cold weather. Our last December trip (2010), we wore shorts the whole trip and were able to enjoy the pool as temps were in the high 70s and low-mid 80s. With that said, I would pack for all types of weather as it can start out one way and change to another over night.

30...ughhh:eek:. I don't like the sound of that!!! Let's hope for 60 & up!!! OMGosh I might have to rebook. :crazy2:Thanks everyone!!!

Here's my post from the other thread asking the same question:

Most will come here and tell you its hit and miss. We have spent 3 of the last 4 Christmas at WDW. 2008, 2010, and 2011. We go for 14 nights which pretty much guarantees a couple of pool worthy days.

In 2008 we were there from Dec. 16th-25th. It was beautiful the entire trip except one day. Highs were 80-88, except the one day it was about 68 and overcast.

In 2010 it was cold! Apparently 2009 and 2010 were unusually cold winters in Florida. We were there from Dec. 14th-28th. The morning we left it was 26! However even during this cold winter there was one day it shot up to 85 while we were there and we went to Blizzard Beach that day. There were also 3 or 4 days that hit the 70s, but most of the time daytime highs were in the 50s.

In 2011 we were there again from Dec. 14th-28th. It was a repeat of 2008. Beautiful the entire trip. I don't think there was a single day where the highs were below 70 and most days were well into the 80s. So all in all we've had pretty good luck with the weather.

If you go long enough you should have a couple nice days for sure. If its a short 5 day trip or something like that, then its luck of the draw. :)

We just went this past December and it was warm enough to swim everyday. It did get cool at night a few times and we pulled the long sleeves but it was absolutely beautiful EVERY single day. We were there Dec 16-24

We went marathon weekend this year and my kids swam everyday!! Now one day it was cold I mean 30 cold and they still swam.. Said the water was super warm. When they were done they ran in the changing rooms to change before heading back to our rooms. :rotfl2:

This is when NOT to book at any value resorts. They do not have hot tubs. At least with the moderates and deluxes you can use the hot tubs. I'm glad I booked my stay at WL in Dec '04 because the temp went down to about 40s or 50s and instead of swimming at the heated pool (which to me the water is still cold), we opt for the hot tub.. Oh how relaxing!!

There is no way to predict it. You may be able to swim and you may not. We have been in December the last 4 years. In 2008, they had a heat wave with record highs the week we were there (88 one day), and we were sweating all week. Definitely warm enough for the pools any time that week. In our 3 trips since then (all 3 of those were the 1st week in December), we started off the week in shorts and the first day or two it was warm enough to swim, but we ended up those weeks in sweaters and jackets and there was no way we would get in the pool, heated or not. It is just a matter of luck. There is a wide range of weather that happens in December at WDW and the weather can change fast. You can't trust the forecast even if you look at it an hour before you leave for Florida (we found that out the hard way). You have to go packed to be prepared for any type of weather.

Thanks everyone! I think we will take a risk & still go. We'll arrive the end of Nov & leave 1st week of Dec. This is a month later than we would like to go but just can't swing it w/ our job schedules. I'll stay positive & hope for a few days to swim. If not, so what? There is a million & 1 other things to do. We are so blessed to be able to go @ all. :cloud9:

Impossible to predict, we have been at that time and as others have experienced everything from 80s to low 30s.

I was at POR during last week of november/first week of Dec of 2010, guessing before it got 'really' cold, but there were a lot of people in the pool when we were there.

The Hot Tub specifically was tempting, but was too crowded for our tastes.

I've gone in December and used the pool. Chances are you'll have at least one or two pool days.

We were there two years ago and it was ICE cold.... 30's every day. The pool at AKL was drained. Really no chance to swim. Then we were there this year and it was perfect. The kids swam every day.

Ya just never know!

We have gone in Dec. a couple times. We didn't use the pools. It was not because of the weather. There were a few days that were warm enough but we were there only for long weekends and my DH is a commando park man. The kids never even asked about the pool:)

We swam at AKL and went to TL back in November and were fine. What was nice about TL was it was deserted!

I've been in late Oct, when you would think it would be more than warm enough to swim. BUT.....while the pool water was very pleasant, getting out was a nightmare!!! The air was cold!! They were having record cold temps at the time. And in Dec??? While the pool water is going to be just wonderful, you are going to have to get out of the water. And that will probably be the big concern. I have been to WDW every Dec for almost 10 years. And I don't think I've been in the pools at any time during those visits. It's just been too chilly!! And the past few years??? Yeah, you needed a jacket in the morning hours and a long sleeve shirt/jeans in the afternoon/evenings. No way would you find me in the pools!!!!
