resort photos

Thank you so much for clarifying this Carrie! I was getting a little worried myself.

Randy Chapman is my photographer and he did tell me that if there were to be a DFTW bride at the GF during the time that I wanted to shoot there we'd have to avoid the GF. I understand that photographers are respectful of the DFTW brides (as they should be because there are certain rights the DFTW brides are entitled to that non DFTW brides are not) but saying "no photos EVER unless you go through us" would be a bit ridiculous of Disney. People have engagement shoots all the time on Disney property and there are countless other non DFTW brides who have had pictures done at various resorts. I'd look for another photographer OP.

I am so frustrated with DFTW everytime I call I get different information. They are so inconsistant! I emailed the photog but have not heard back yet, looking for a backup.

Perhaps the photographer would feel better if you directed her here or if she emailed Disney Event Photography so that she has written proof that Disney do not ban outside photographers from their resorts.

Failing that I also highly recommend Randy Chapman, he is a Disney regular and so pretty much knows everyone. :thumbsup2

Thank you Carrie and thank goodness!!! What a terrible day it would be if Disney tried to ban anybody (except DFTW brides) taking photos around the resorts in their bridal attire!!
Jilian sweetie - When we arrived to take photos at the GF, there was a DFTW bride on the staircase, but we just wandered outside to do beach shots etc and when we came back in, she was gone and Randy was able to spend as much time doing our indoor GF shots as he needed. Admittedly, this was after our ceremony and our reception was at the GF, so we had no time constraints and were able to wait as long as needed for the DFTW bride to vacate the spot.

This is how I plan on spending the hours after my reception, too. We've got a list of shots from multiple resorts we want. :goodvibes

The photographer got the offical email yesterday from DFTW telling her it is not allowed and she is not willing to violate the policy that they themselves seem very unclear on. Therefore I am hiring a different photographer. I am just frustrated.

I do not want to put the photographer in a position to get in trouble, but I honestly feel like Disney is too wishy washy to take seriously. Half of the employees I have spoken with told me it was ok, Disney Event Photograohy told me it was ok. The photographer feels obligated to go by the policy she was told by one employee at DFTW. I do not want to get her in trouble.

I am hiring someone else. If we get kicked out, we get kicked out. I honestly do not think we will.

Sounds like the photographer may have done something DFTW wasn't very happy about.... To me it sounds like they aren't banning all photographers, just that one...

I agree that this sounds like this particular photographer is having some problems with Disney. When I was planning a wishes wedding just a few months ago I told them I was changing my venue from the backstage prop shop to the atlantic dance hall because I wanted an outside photographer to do pictures for the wedding/reception and resort pictures. they said the understood and while they would like me to use disney photo they know not all brides want to use their photo services. They asked who I wanted to use I told them Randy and they said well if you are going to go with an outside photographer he is one of the ones that they would recommend and prefer. So maybe that has something to do with it.

Randy is phenomenal and we had our engagement shots in december at the wilderness lodge, boardwalk inn and on the boardwalk. So it should not be a problem. Maybe it is just your photographer.

I suspect the difference is because you are not having a DFTW. I also would guess that Swan/Dolphin weddings get some sort of a "pass" since they are on Disney property and can use the characters, etc...

Randy, Misty, the Ardnt's, etc... are outside photographers that are allowed to photograph DFTW as they have been approved to do so. I would think if you had a DFTW and hired the outside photographer and got Disney's approval, then you could do the resort shoots.

I think the big difference is that you are not having a DFTW. That way Disney can keep track of the number of bridal couples roaming around any given day. Otherwise, anyone in the area could come in for photo shoots at the same time and cause total chaos.

Just my thoughts.

Perhaps you could do a Memories wedding inexpensively and then have your photographer?

Memories is 2500, then add 250 for an officiant. It includes no cake or champange. With only 20 photos (5x7) included we would still need to hire an outside photographer. The clincher for us was the locations. None of the current locations are all that appealing for us. We had been planning to do memoroes and Narcoosees, since that is where we got engaged but they said we could no longer use that location.

Instead, we are paying 1500 total,we get a beautiful gazebo overlooking the water surrounded by green grass, floral, music, cake & champagne,an officiant, and a free night in a junior suite. So now we are still getting our own photog but we can afford to stay in a much nicer hotel for the honeymoon. We are going to stay at the Boardwalk.

So the Memories package is not going to work for us. Since there is only the 2 of us we could live without the cake and champage, but we are not willing to spend double to get married in a less appealing location with a package that offers so much less.
