Resort Parking for WL guest

We have never stayed at a deluxe hotel. I know they have self-parking and valet. Do you pay to park at your resort if you are parking yourself. What is the per day charge? How is this different from valet parking. We will probably be using the car a lot with 2 kids.
In the past when we have visited a resort for dinner, we have self-parked for free or valet parked for arounf $6 (all resorts or just some??)

Disney resorts have free self-parking. The 3 Universal Hotels charge for self-parking.

WL has free parking for their guests, which is a short walk back to the hotel. You can drop of luggage and others in your party under the front porch and then park your car.

They also have Valet parking available, which is I believe $6/day. If you pay at one WDW hotel during that day you can valet at any WDW hotel you may go to that day under that payment. All you have to do is tip at drop off and pick up of your car at each hotel. You will need your receipt from whatever hotel you first paid at.
