Resort options for solo?

I went back several pages and tried a search but didn't come up with previous threads that fit.

Most of my prior trips have involved staying at Ft. Wilderness but while the greater privacy and solitude is nice in a group, it's not really what I'm looking for with my first solo trip. I want to meet new people and socialize.

The budget-minded part of me says to go with one of the values while the occasional beach-bum in me says to go for YC/BC. While I know they're close to EPCOT and have the boardwalk, I'm not really a "just-hang-out" type (I can do it for an afternoon but not much more) so it's hard to justify dropping deluxe money on a resort I'll probably do little more than sleep in.

Time of year: Sept/Oct
Goals: Meet chi ... err, meeting other adult guests while minimizing the number of darling children running up and down the sidewalk at all hours.
Transportation: Haven't decided yet if I'll rent a car or rely on Disney wheels.

Which resorts provide the best value for meeting other adults? If I go with a value will I be going insane after a few days from all the children and thin walls?

Have you considered the Swan/Dolphin??? That may give you more chance to meet other people. Since there are lots of meetings/conventions, there are lots of adults there! I've stayed at the Swan (loved it). If you are not already a Starwood member, sign up for free membership and earn points!

I also have to say that there will be kids everywhere......but I have never stayed at a value resort (and probably never will) even when my daughter was a kid. They just don't appeal to me. We like "nicer" establishments that offer more choices.

I stayed at POFQ on my last solo trip and LOVED it. There were people around to talk to and the lounge in the lobby and the poolside bar were great places to relax and chat. I will be returning there for my next solo trip in Oct of this year.

I stayed at CBR the year before on my solo trip. It's a nice place but I didn't meet as many people because it is spread out and quite frankly, after a long day at the parks, I was too tired to hike or take internal bus over to the pool bar.

Those are just my thoughts. If you want to meet people, you can do that almost anywhere. Hope you have a great time!

I'm also staying at POFQ (moderate) for my solo trip in a few weeks. They have the Scat Cat Lounge, which is supposed to be very popular. Picked it because it was a smaller adult-type resort (vs. a family resort).

I also considered Coronado Springs (moderate), but it seems to be convention-type atomsphere, but you may want to look into it.

I hope you have a great time! :goodvibes

I don't know about the S&D. It's a bit embarrassing to admit but I sort of like the Disney influence and those two have always reminded me more of Vegas than of WDW.

POFQ looks interesting, gonna have to check it out more.

I just thought S/D would offer more opportunity/possibility of being among a higher percentage of singles. That's just my opinion!

When DD20 and I stayed there.........I know we both got "approached/hit on" way more than any other location we've stayed!

It's certainly good to know that there are options. I was seriously concerned with the biggest problem being stuck among families and not having anyone to exchange adult conversation with. Sounds like that won't be a problem though.

I think most of the pool bars are good places to chat with adults. I've never been to one I didn't like. POFQ seems to be a good bet for a nicer resort with less kids running amok. In Sept. there are usually decent rates for the mods, not much more than the values.

I'd also vote for POFQ. I stayed there a couple of years ago with my DS & DD (18 yo and 29). Small resort so it's not as spread out as CSR (which I also like).
You might also like POR. I've not stayed there but I've read a lot of good things about it. It's on my list of moderates to stay at this coming December.

The only value resort I've stayed at is Pop Century--four times! :) The room wasn't any noisier than rooms at YC, BC or CSR. Turbo flush toilets, which can be annoying, but I think they're at all of the resorts. The walls at Pop Century didn't seem to be any thinner than at the other resorts mentioned.

If you select a room away from the pools and Centennial Hall, you'll have less traffic and a quieter atmosphere. I actually heard children more while in the room at YC/BC than at Pop Century. If they squeal or screech, you're going to hear them--where ever you are! *LOL*

CSR probably would be more suited to "meeting adults" than some of the other resorts, as it's a convention resort. But families stay there as well, so be prepared! :)
