Resort Mugs

Some people on another message boards told me that the mugs my family & I have been using at the Contemporary since January 2000 are no longer good & that whenever we go to WDW we will always have to purchase new mugs. So should my family & I need to purchase new mugs all the time because it would seem like a waste of $11.99 x 3 = $35.97 which is what we will have to spend on new mugs for every trip to WDW (Mugs for me, my Mom & Dad). Also on our last trip back in December 2005/January 2006, we used our old mugs at the Contemporary & the Cast Members did not say a word about them when I went to pay for a Cheeseburger at the Fun & Food Center. So what are your thoughts about this?

I forgot to ask what do you think of using your mugs at other WDW Resorts? My family & I have done that a few times at the Polynesian & Grand Floridian. Eventhough were not supost to we have never had a CM stop us. In fact a CM at the Grand Floridian asked us where & when did we get our Contemporary mugs because she had never seen them before. Also & some of you may not agree with this part but I always see people using Wilderness Lodge, All Star, Pop Century mugs at the Contempoary so what's the big deal if we use our Contemporary mugs at other Resorts?

The rule is, you shouldn't use them anywhere but your resort. That said...I don't know how often the designs change on the mugs. If it's yearly then CM's could recognize you were using an outdated mug. If not, then I don't see how they could tell you were using a mug from 2000. I would do it. Has anyone else been able to use their 'expired' mugs or used their mugs at resorts that were not their own?

When I bought my All Star mug, Port Orleans Mug and Wilderness Lodge Commuter mug I was told they were good at any time (even return trips). However I ONLY use the appropriate mug with the appropriate resort.

This trip I DID bring my Grand Californian travel mug as well as the Wilderness Lodge one but that was for beverages I brought with me since refillable mugs were not available when I was there.

So my vote - yes to reusing your mug but only at the resort of purchase. No using it at another resort unless its a sister resort like All Stars or Port Orleans. In the words of my Mother "Just because other kids jump off a bridge, doesn't mean you have to."

When I used to go to the all stars each year, the mug designs were different each time. I have seen people been told by CMs that they need to purchase a new one, but from what I have heard it doesn't happen very often. Technically your mug is good only at the location purchased for the duration of your visit. I think you will hear a lot of different opinions on this board. Personally I think that the mugs are a great souvenir and a good value. I hope the resorts will continue to use them, maybe create a refillable mug for the parks as well.

All of the mugs we just bought this January and last August clearly state on them that this mug is for use for this visit ONLY.

Disney policy is and has been at least since 1997 that mugs are only good for the length of your stay at the resort you bought them at. They are not good for future stays and they are not good for other resorts during your stay, except for sister resorts like the All Stars and POR and POFQ.

Well if you ask me that information is just wrong. Ever since May of 1998 my family & I have stayed at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel. Those have been the Contemporary & the Wilderness Lodge. In the summer of 1998 we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge on quite a few vacations & on that trip purchased the mugs thier & used them on future trips. Ever since January of 2000 we have stayed at the Contemporary & since that month & year we have used the excat same mugs at the Contemporary with no problem & no objection from the Cast Members. Also that rule about mugs being used for 1 trip only is a bunch of bull. My family & I will continue to use our mugs & not have to spend $11.99 everytime because we are not the only guests to use old mugs from previous vacations.

If its thats big of a deal why don't you call and ask? I was told last June at ASM that my mug was good for that trip only at time of purchase. Just because they don't always enforce the rule doesn't mean that it doesn't exist or that the people who have been told of it are incorrect.

Ummm... ok...whatever... but let me ask you this, if you did not want the opinions of other posters, why did you come on a public forum and ask for them???
Personally, I couldn't care less if people re-use old mugs. I'm not going to waste my vacation worrying about it, but there are some people that seem to put refillable mug rules right up there with God and country so be prepared for the heated replies that are sure to follow.

We stayed @ POR Riverside last week - we saw people using all kind of mugs. Old POR mugs, new mugs, other resort mugs & even refilling styrofoam coffee cups (which I assume were purchased for 1 cup of coffee only). The CM's never approached anyone. I would feel that it is a personal choice - do whatever. We have friends going this summer to same resort - 1st time & we will send our 2 POR mugs (that we did just purchase last week) with them. they have saved for the trip & really will appreciate not having to purchase all 4 mugs for their stay.

Your mugs are only good for use at the hotel where you purchased them and only for THAT vacation. It's hardly a "waste" to have to buy them every time as you are still saving money. This is not a free refill program for life - it's a free refil for the duration of your vacation!

Then why bother asking?!?!? @@ Go ahead and abuse the sytem if it suits you but don't come here asking us if it's ok and then get mad when people tell you it isn't.

These posts only lead to bickering and fighting. Everyone has their own thoughts, ideas, values, morals, etc. That is what makes America great, we can all be different. Let's just be civil towards each other. I'm sorry, at first I actually thought this was a set up... a joke.
