Resort Housekeeping

When we travel, Disney or otherwise, we typically don't have housekeeping come in every day anyway. Usually just when we run out of towels or when we feel the bathroom needs cleaning. Maybe I'm the only nutcase who prefers not to have a stranger in my room when I'm not. To clarify I'm not worried about housekeeping stealing anything of mine that isn't locked up. It's the part of cruising I don't like because they are in your cabin 2x a day! ;)
I‘ve always declined housekeeping, even back when there was no compensation for doing so. I‘ve also always disinfected my room on arrival and don’t want strangers touching my stuff.

Could we just get a sticky at the top of the page saying "If you don't like it, you don't have to go?" Then maybe people would just stop saying it.
Wait, what's that you heard? You don't have to go? Are you sure this is accurate information and not just another rumor? Because if it's true, it might affect my plans.

Lol.

I can totally see why (to a certain extent) that they are doing the 'light housekeeping' but if I totally opt out, like I did last September, I do feel that I should still get the giftcard. I've paid for a service when I booked the room and if I decide not to take it I would appreciate some of that cost back. I know it's only $10 a day but to some on a budget that can be useful

We always opt out of the cleaning but we only stay three nights and spend little time in the rooms. I still leave the same standard tip.

If I'm going to the parks with thousands of people, a single person wearing a mask, using cleaning products does not worry me. If they're going to cut services to my room, I shouldn't be paying full price or I should at least continue to get the gift cards they've been giving for years. There are some changes they're making that don't have a thing to do with safety. Cutting out daily housekeeping is one of them. It's a money saver. That's it.
I have a different viewpoint in terms of the daily housekeeping in that I understand why they would not want to provide this service.

You are fine with being in the parks with thousands of people and having one person use cleaning products in your room, and I guess you figure they will wear a mask while doing it. But your family is using the room without masks, performing various personal hygiene tasks and otherwise 'contaminating' this relatively small space. I think it is more of a danger to the person who is cleaning your room than it is to you. So maybe consider the view of that person, who is probably not trained in, and simply doesn't have the resources to execute, hospital standards of disinfection. The less they are in your room, breathing your air, and touching your stuff, the better.

People insisting strangers enter their room every single day to repeatedly touch their linens during a pandemic that hasn't gone away, is bizarre.
First of all, no one knows how long the virus survives on surfaces. At this point, the scientific community's guesses change almost daily. Also, as JM23457 said, if I were afraid of the pandemic I wouldn't be visiting WDW.
If Disney isn't going to provide daily housekeeping, they should either reduce their rates of give their guests gift cards.

But that is not one of the provided options. You do have the option to cancel with a full refund.

I don't think that anyone is happy with the various reduced services, but everyone does have the option to be refunded. If they were penalizing you for cancelling in view of these reductions, then it would be reasonable to complain.

I doubt the hospital cleaners are any more or less capable of cleaning a room than the Disney housekeepers. It's the cleaning products that make the difference. Disney isn't making this move to "protect"the housekeepers. If housekeepers aren't needed, disney won't be paying them.

I know hearing you can cancel is frustrating but IMO, Disney has at least put out there they are not going to provide certain things. It is certainly a risk and will leave some with a negative view of Disneys choices.

Nothing wrong with expressing frustration, but also nothing wrong with being reminded that ultimately, the guest is in the drivers seat and if I was someone who wanted daily housekeeping, I would probably cancel and choose somewhere else that would be providing it.

I just explained that maybe the workers are more at risk than you are.
I would bet these housekeepers are more at risk of not being able to afford food on the table, paying rent, or buying essential medications. I doubt they have the luxury of choosing to stay home.

Yep, my point all along. :thumbsup2

People knew there would be changes made across the board when Disney reopened. People insisting strangers enter their room every single day to repeatedly touch their linens during a pandemic that hasn't gone away, is bizarre. With new cleaning protocols in place, there is no way housekeeping can service every room daily.

If people are unhappy with the change, they were given plenty of notice to cancel or stay somewhere else.
They're strangers to us. We're strangers to them.
They're known to their employer. We're strangers to their employer.
They're required to have (at least) temperature checks, I think daily? We're not.
They're required to not work on any day they're potentially ill. We're not required to leave it we're sick, nor are we required to stay inside the room.

I'd be much more concerned as the employee/business, about getting sick from any of these guest-strangers than I am as a guest catching anything from a screened housekeeper, or any CM.

eta: they're not our rooms, and it's not our linens - it's all Disney's that they're renting to us briefly
also think it's bizarre that people would be comfortable mingling with thousands of people from all over the country for 8-12 hrs a day, yet object to a single person being in their room cleaning for 15 minutes

Fixed that for ya ;)

I just noticed something on the app. The option to decline housekeeping in return for the gift card had disappeared for a while. Well, now the option is back up but with no mention of the gift card. Darn ... I was looking forward to spending that money on Mickey bars :(
I chatted with a CSR on the WDW website and she said the gift card offer was still in effect.

,
I have to disagree that virus survival rates aren't known, or that they keep changing. I mean, maybe the timelines are different than three of six months ago, but two sources with similar timelines:
https://www.webmd.com/lung/how-long-covid-19-lives-on-surfaceshttps://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/how-long-does-it-stay-on-surfaces/ar-BB148cRm

I opted out of Mousekeeping. There is only two of us and we're pretty tidy. Id actually prefer someone not in my room.
