resort hopping?

The main pool is being refurbished and won't be finished until mid-September. When we were there a few months ago, we barely looked at it. I think it will be awesome when it's completed. I think they moved slides to the quiet pools though, at least they were supposed to.

OP, if the pool is a big thing for you and your family I would suggest calling to see if it will still be under refurbishment when you go. If it is see if there is another comparable resort that is available.

Good luck.

The op asked an honest question, so why do we always have to make snide and smart-a@%ed comments?:confused3 Op-pool hopping is kind of a no no.They do check resort Ids, maybe not all the time, but they do.I Have had my resort ID checked at WL,BC, and AKL for trips during September,May, and December not on major holidays.YC/BC pool was fenced in because of all the non-resort guests flocking to that pool, and they do give out armbands.

Most of the sarcastic comments aren't in response to the OP, but to the post following "I don't see anything wrong with it." The OP really shouldn't feel bad for making an innocent inquiry - we aren't born knowing the policies about Disney. I certainly wouldn't have responded to the thread without someone other than the OP saying "I don't see what the big deal is." That post moves it outside the realm of inquiry.

There are only a few situations where it's permitted to swim at a resort where you are not a guest.

1. If you're staying at any of the All-Star resorts, you can swim at any of the three All Star resorts' pools.

2. If you're staying at POFQ or POR, you can swim at both resorts' pools.

3. If you're a DVC member staying on points, you may swim at any resort pool on property, except those at YC/BC and AKL.

Outside of those situation, pool-hopping is prohibited, and you'll see signs to that effect at the resort pools. Particularly at deluxe pools, you may have your resort ID checked, and you'll be asked to leave if you can't produce an ID for that resort.

A big THANK YOU to all the Dis Vets/Mods who graciously respond to all questions however controversial they may appear to some! :thanks:

There is a sign posted at every pool, I'm sure someone here has a picture of it, that states the pool is for the use of that particular resort guests only. So if you take your kids, assuming they can read, they see the sign and then you expect them to follow your rules from then on you must be living in Fantasyland.

The easy way to stop any pool hopping is to put a gate on the pool that requires your room key card to open it. Many hotels have this and not just in Florida.

honestly-what is the big deal?? i know i'm gonna get attacked for this post, but honestly it wouldn't bother me if i was staying at a deluxe resort (which i will be in Sept) and a family from a value/moderate resort came to enjoy the day at the pool. I understand the whole-we pay more to stay in a better resort-but i really dont see a big deal. Let the kids have fun. And by the way-as I've stated many times before-i've never been asked to show ID at any pool resort i've stayed at. I've never resort pool hopped-too much work for me i guess, but i wouldnt complain if someone else did it. Can't we all just have fun? :confused3

Hey There...
We just got back from BCV. We used stormalong bay everyday and I have to say that our KTTWC was checked everytime we used the pool. Prior the the trip I sort of felt like who cares who swims BUT when I realized how great the pool was and how much busier it would have been if anyone could swim, my attitude quickly changed.

I do think that if you pay more for a deluxe resort than you get a better pool, if you pay for a value pool than you get a value pool. It's not really fair for those paying a fraction of what deluxe resort guests are paying, to be able to use and clog up the pools at deluxe resorts.

Like I said, prior to my trip I could have cared less but now after just getting back and seeing how crowded it gets,,,I totally agree and understand why there is no pool hopping.

Most people who post questions like this do so innocently, just wanting to know is pool-hopping or mu re-use or 5 in a room for 4 is allowed. They're not trying to cheat or break rules, they're trying to find out what the rules are so they can plan effectively - and remain within the rules.

They don't deserve to be slammed or denigrated just because they don't know ALL of the rules; I've been going to WDW for 18 years and I still don't know ALL of the rules.

But they do deserve to have their questions answered, in a polite, unemotional manner, and to have the situation calmly explained to them, so they will know what the rules are at WDW and not accidentally plan something that's not allowed.

I am one of those people who believes in the no pool-hopping rule - even though I never stay at Mods or Deluxes, only Values - but if WDW ever did put some kind of pool-hopping policy into place, I would calmly and rationally explain the policy to anyone who asked, without malice.

Asking questions is what the planning boards are supposed to be for.

Having a debate is what the Community board is for.

I had to jump in on this one. I've been to Disney literally like over 30 times. I've stayed at about 7 of the resorts, none value though. I have never been asked for an ID or had anyone with me asked for an ID. I never pool hopped but did much swimming at the resort I was staying in. I've never even seen anyone getting asked for ID. I'm not saying whether I agree or disagree with it but just sayin' I didn't even know they ID'd people. And now that I've said that the next time I go I will probably get ID'd every time I take a dip.:rolleyes1

It's simply a matter of scale. It wouldn't make any difference at all if ONE family from a value or moderate resort came to enjoy the Poly pool. But if you open the pools to the public, you're not just going to get one extra family at that nifty Poly volcano pool.

There are 5000+ rooms at the All-Stars alone. The Poly pool was sized for a resort with several hundred rooms. If you open the Poly pool to the general public, and even 50 families from other resorts appear one afternoon, it's going to completely overcrowd the pool, and guarantee a miserable experience for people who paid several hundred dollars a night to stay at the Poly and enjoy the pool.

Well said. Perfect.

And, you can see below the resorts at which I have stayed. Beach club is the only one that asked to see any kind of ID.

We've been IDed a few times, but not many. Just as a point of reference, year and years ago, Disney encouraged pool hopping, but then they started building a lot more resorts and they had to prohibit access.

We just got back from 6 days at the YC. Every day we were asked to show our room keys (ALL-4) which included our kids and then we received a colored wristband. Each day was a different color.

Depending on the time of day we went, there were no chairs available, glad we don't have to fight for chairs with pool hoppers!!!!!!!

Several years ago we were at the WL My son took my grandaughter swimming, while I did laundry. They were asked for their room keys and when they couldn't produce them, my son came into the laundry room to get mine. I walked out with him and showed the lifeguard my key, but the lifeguard insisted on seeing my son and GD's, saying that just because I was staying there, didn't mean they were. I left them there and had to go upstairts to get their keys. When I came back they told me I had missed all the excitement and that two different groups had been kicked out. One dad was really arguing, a manager had to be called, and security escorted them out, with the dad yelling that as much as he spent for this vacation, he should be allowed to swim wherever he d-mn well pleased. This was in January, so not a busy time for the pools. I was also at the Boardwalk in May '06 when we were asked for room keys and saw several families asked to leave.
