resort hopping?

hi- can anyone tell me if we stay at one resort, can we use the pool at another?

I think you can only do that if you are a DVC member and it's limited to certain pools. I wouldn't try it otherwise...Some resorts (like the Yacht and Beach Club) check for guest ID's and if you are not staying there, you will not gain access to the pool.

There are only a few situations where it's permitted to swim at a resort where you are not a guest.

1. If you're staying at any of the All-Star resorts, you can swim at any of the three All Star resorts' pools.

2. If you're staying at POFQ or POR, you can swim at both resorts' pools.

3. If you're a DVC member staying on points, you may swim at any resort pool on property, except those at YC/BC and AKL.


Outside of those situation, pool-hopping is prohibited, and you'll see signs to that effect at the resort pools. Particularly at deluxe pools, you may have your resort ID checked, and you'll be asked to leave if you can't produce an ID for that resort.

honestly-what is the big deal?? i know i'm gonna get attacked for this post, but honestly it wouldn't bother me if i was staying at a deluxe resort (which i will be in Sept) and a family from a value/moderate resort came to enjoy the day at the pool. I understand the whole-we pay more to stay in a better resort-but i really dont see a big deal. Let the kids have fun. And by the way-as I've stated many times before-i've never been asked to show ID at any pool resort i've stayed at. I've never resort pool hopped-too much work for me i guess, but i wouldnt complain if someone else did it. Can't we all just have fun?

You may never have been asked to show id to swim but we had to at the BC during Labor Day weekend.

I've never had the desire to pool hop, but in probably 100 visits to pools at about 6 different resorts, I've never been asked for an ID nor have I seen anyone ask for an ID.

the ID thing may be during busy times? I am not very experienced compared to most on here, but we stayed at YC last November for about a week and were never asked.

Doesn't seem like a big deal now, but if you're spending $250 a night to stay at Polynesian and can't get into the Volcano pool because it's full of people from the Values and Mods, you'd be fuming.

And rightly so, IMHO. I've never had any problem with "I pay for this, I get it. I don't pay for this, I don't get it."

As others have said, you are not allowed to do this. The pools are for the use of only the resort guests staying there.

Yes and I have seen people told they couldn't swim because they weren't staying at the resort.

Yes, as DVC members we pool hopped to the Poly and had to show our blue DVC member card. It was obvious we were hopping (we'd come from the MK in park clothes, used the bathroom to change, and had all our clothes at the table we grabbed. So we WERE obvious hoppers at a crowded pool close to the MK - we were also legal hoppers - DVC members staying on points during a non-blackout period.

It's simply a matter of scale. It wouldn't make any difference at all if ONE family from a value or moderate resort came to enjoy the Poly pool. But if you open the pools to the public, you're not just going to get one extra family at that nifty Poly volcano pool.

There are 5000+ rooms at the All-Stars alone. The Poly pool was sized for a resort with several hundred rooms. If you open the Poly pool to the general public, and even 50 families from other resorts appear one afternoon, it's going to completely overcrowd the pool, and guarantee a miserable experience for people who paid several hundred dollars a night to stay at the Poly and enjoy the pool.

Yes, I've had my ID checked at the WL pool, and I've also seen families escorted from the pool area by uniformed security because they couldn't produce a WL ID.

Because it isn't a lot of fun when you head down to the pool with your kids and discover that the clown slide (we usually stay at BWV) has a ten minute line and there isn't a chair to be found. So you sit on the edge of the pool and start talking to other guests. The first set are DVC members staying at the Boardwalk like yourself. The second are Orlando natives who bopped by the Disney resort for a swim (because they do card, but not often enough that you can't get away with it), the third set is taking a break from their Epcot day and are staying over at POR.....and it becomes fairly obvious that about half the people at the pool aren't supposed to be there - and your kids would get to go down the slide more, it would be a more pleasant swim, and you could find a chair if pool use were REALLY limited to just the resort guests.

The Boardwalk, the MK resorts - particularly the Poly with the cool volcano slide, and the WL tend to be the pools with the worst amount of offenders - they have nice pools, easy park access. SAB at the Y&BC is the only pool that really actively enforces no hopping (guests show their key and get wristbands) which limits the hopping done there.
