We are arriving by car in a week and staying at the Poly. I read somewhere that the resort by-pass around the automobile entrance to the MK is open or partially open but can't find updated information on this. If someone has updated information, please post it.

Thanks

I'd be shocked if this were the case. I was there in Oct and it was not even constructed. If it's finished for traffic it would be the fastest road built in history of road construction. Possible but again, I'd be flabbergasted. So I'm following along myself.

The “flyover” part of that project has a long way to go, but the road for Poly/GF/WL/FW/CR guests to bypass the toll booth did open sometime in the last month.

Here are a few links:

That one link uses the word “ramp” which is an overstatement... it’s just a road.

Ah, ok. I was thinking strictly Flyover road and thought, no way!

I’m sort of curious to see how this bypass thing is working. I saw some reports of pretty bad traffic/backups right when it opened, not sure if that has been fixed or an ongoing problem during peak times? I guess we’ll see! :-)

I'm not sure this is the same "bypass", but when we were there at Thanksgiving, traffic getting to MK was terrible. One morning we took the bus from BC and the bus driver had a terrible time around the MK parking area. She was trying to get over in the right lane to go to MK but at least 20 cars kept cutting her off causing her to slam on brakes. We almost fell several times due to all the folks standing and one person actually did fall at one point. It was awful and I felt terrible for the bus driver. This was the only time that happened but also the only morning we went to MK. :crazy2:

There is awful backup at that road now. There is a road, to the right, just before you get to the main gates. This is what you take if you're going to MK or one of the resorts there. But, there is a light at the end of the road. This causes huge backups. Left at the light and you're basically back on the regular road. I understand why they did it, and hopefully once the real 'flyover' is done, the backups won't happen as much.

Which direction are you coming from? It might be better to take the exit on I-4 between 535 and the Osceola Parkway (I take it all the time, but not sure what they call the road right at the exit. It’s 536 heading East and becomes Epcot Center Drive once on Disney Property.) Drive past the exit to Disney Springs and the Epcot resorts, and the PO resorts, and just past the Epcot ramp is a ramp to MK that puts you on World Drive in the far right lane where you need to be to exit World Drive on the new road.

If you are coming in from a road other than I-4, there are other ways to drive around the worst part of it. You also have the option of taking Bonnet Creek past the P.O. resorts, making a left at the light, and following the road past Fort Wilderness. This puts you on the road that intersects with the new road from World Drive, and is actually the road you turn left on to access the MK resorts from the new road.

When I was there last week, they did have a lot of those big temporary signs directing people, but I agree you don’t want to be trying to merge right through the traffic entering from Epcot Center Drive to make that exit. Cones and barrels and confused drivers everywhere . . .

we're driving up from south Florida so we always take the turnpike to Osceola Parkway and go straight in to WDW. I have used the road you described but that would be much more driving if I'm on the Osceola Parkway

I'm trying to figure out why the new temp exit road is backing up so bad. The old road (after you went through the right lane of the ticket gate) was only 1 lane and it wasn't that bad.

We are here now and have used it multiple times for ADRs at monorail resorts and haven't had a problem once, even on christmas day for the Grand Floridian dinner.
