Resort dressers

I work at a nicer hotel and from the stories that I've heard from our housekeepers...let's just say I always leave my clothes in my suitcase now. :crazy2:

Many people I know, that used to do housekeeping at hotels, told me that one nice trick to make the bathroom shine, is to use the old towels to dry everything, from the toilets to the sink…

What were your stories? (Not that I'm willing to be frightened by anything, I mean, there's many things that I won't do at home, but I guess they're mostly harmless or the thousand of guests that sleep at hotels everyday would be sick and we would know it.)

Ummmm what exactly are bed buds? Is this what I call my cat when he hogs my pillow? LOL!

Cat renting would be an awesome feature that I'd be willing to add to my forthcoming reservation.

definitely unpack and hang things that need to be hung, the rest goes in the drawers.

So it sounds like there are more people who unpack than those that use the suitcase.

The reason I asked is because my wife unpacks everything when we arrive and puts it in all the drawers. Even for a two night stay. I keep everything in my suitcase, and have done it for a two weeks trip. She says I'm crazy and that most people will agree with her. I guess she's right. :rotfl2:

My wife and I are having our own suitcase. For short trips, I tend to unpack everything, while she keeps everything in her suitcase. That way, everyone is happy. :)

LOL! Me too but when I got home there would be trouble. My one cat takes at least a week to forgive me as it is. If he smelled another cat on me, oh my I hate to think what he wold put me through!

Silly, didn't you know your wife is always right to start with?

So here's the thing, I'm a huge overpacker and those dresser draws at the resorts are on the small side, and with multiple adults in one room there isn't enough space for everyone to use the dresser drawers (not the way my family packs)! Some of my family members unpack but I just lay my suitcase in the closet and use it that way, it's not a problem even for longer stays and it's easy to be ready to go on checkout day. The only thing I unpack is my makeup/hair stuff in the bathroom so I can get to every morning and evening.

If your hotel room has bed buds anywhere, would it not be the last of your concern where they are hiding?
People often overlook the fact that these things hide in dressers. They are extremely difficult to kill. It requires heat and often several treatments. Some studies have shown that they can live 6-12 months without a meal. So yes, it is my concern where they hide. Even if you thoroughly check the room they are easy to miss until there is a complete infestation. So if there is any chance that a random bugger or two is sharing my room I take no chance in minimizing my exposure to them, or taking them home as a souvenir. They are resilient, breed fairly fast, and are champion hiders. They are also expensive to treat. Disney usually does a good job helping guests that encounter bed bugs from what I've read here at the dis, but who needs the headache? We use a system of sealed plastic bags to hold our clothing and personal items.

From what I've seen, I have the impression that housekeeping seldom (if ever) cleans the inside of dresser drawers. I don't know what type of little bugs tend to be in the drawers. But I've found that the bugs are less likely to follow me home, if I live out of the suitcase.

DW and I are having a disagreement on whether people do this. Do you unpack your clothes when you get to the resort and put them in the hotel's dresser drawers? Or do you live out of your suitcase for the trip?

Anytime we stay in a hotel for more than one night, I completely unpack. I hate living out of the suitcases.

I hate living out of a suitcase. If we're there for more than 1 night, I'll at least take out a few staples and put them away. If we're there for more than 2-3 nights, everything is unpacked and put away. If I'm on a business trip and only staying one night (and am usually just using a carry on), I'll definitely hang up the items that need hanging and will just lay out the next day's remaining clothes on the desk or chair and put away the dirty laundry that night back into the carry on. That way, I only have to dress the next day and pack away my toiletries.

We've cruised DCL now 10 times and I have a standard routine for where everything goes (with minor variations based on the different ships). This way, DH knows where everything is without being told and it's easy for me to find everything as well as efficient in unpacking. I know what goes where before I even get on board.

So where do you keep your suitcase in the room that would be "safe" from potential bedbugs? Just curious?

I only unpack my suitcase when in Disney or on a cruise(if there is space) everywhere else I live out of a suitcase/backpack. Not sure why. I also wipe down the inside of the drawers before I do so and it therefore drives me crazy when the pullout pillows are stored IN the dresser in some of the DVC villas, as when I'm w/the entire family thats MY bed and I don't want my pillow coming from a drawer that I'm not sure has been cleaned before placement!

Also:what is this cube you all speak of?

I clean the inside of the drawers with Lysol wipes before putting the clothes in. I find it hard to find anything when living out of a suitcase. I also read to not put the suitcases on the floor so I put one on the small table in the room and the other in the closet on the suitcase rack.

I only do laundry as needed and usually once or twice during the trip just so we have enough clean clothes. I put the dirty clothes into a garbage bag in the suitcase.

Packing cubes come in different sizes and colors. There are some available in locals stores, but a very popular source is:

http://www.ebags.com/product/ebags/packing-cubes-3pc-set/13032

You can usually find a promo codes for eBags on their website; special offers also are available, if you sign up for eBags emails.

I have a few sets and always use them to organize packed items and compress clothes. The cubes will allow more to be packed in your luggage. On short visits, I unpack toiletries, but leave clothing in the packing cubes, with the cubes left in my bag. The bag gets placed on the luggage rack, which sits in front of the connecting door to the next guest room.

after about 28 trips to wdw, (and I almost always unpack) we have never brought home bed bugs. OP, we women are "nesters" . we like to make our current residence our "home". I put out any snacks I brought from home on top of the dressers, set up the "bar" , put oput all the toiletries, etc.
