Resort check in and gift cards

Hello Disboards! When I check into my resort hotel and they ask me if I want to put a credit card on my room for charging privileges, can I use a Disney gift card? I buy gift cards to use for my meals, etc. while in WDW. It would be really convenient to not have to carry the card, and just use my room key (or Magic Band) to pay for everything. I don't want to use a credit card. I don't want to leave WDW owing any money. And I know I can pay for a room with the gift card, so I'm hoping I can also use it for "charging". I will be using DVC points for the room. Can they set up a limit for charging privileges? Can I request a limit? Thank you!

Unless it's changed, you can't have charging privileges unless you give them a credit card. However, and this is what we always do, you can give them a credit card, then go down to the desk every couple of days and pay the balance on your room key before it is charged to your credit card.

We do this, and it works great - we are able to charge to our room key, but we don't leave WDW with credit card debt.

You have to have a credit card for charging privileges, but you can pay it off with gift cards before you hit your limit. Staying on DVC points, you will have a $1,500.00 limit. Just keep your slips or go to the concierge desk each night to obtain aa list of your charges.
